For 100.00, I will make you a tool that will immobilize the engine so that you can use the breaker bar with a cheater pipe or a real impact wrench. 20.00 of that will go to the Forum as a donation.

Tom
are you going to charge 100 bucks for a screwdriver to stick in a brake rotor?

get a mapp gas tank (hotter), not propane, put it on the bolt and maybe touching everything around it for a good 15 minutes, then pull it off and spray the bolt with WD40 or pentrant to cool it off real quick, don't spray anything around it just the bolt and then try impact wrench or breaker bar or starter bump,

i did this when i broke a spark plug collar off in my 460 ford, spent probably 16 hours until i got gutsy and tried this. Had tried everything beforehand until i heated it up real hot and had a friend hang on a breaker bar while i sprayed WD40 at it broke loose no problem...

Uh, this method will destroy the harmonic dampener, and the front main seal and maybe something in the oil pump area, garrunteed.

The same effect can be done with dry ice held against the bolt head and ****** for a few minutes. This wont hurt the rubber joint between the two layers of the harmonic dampener. If you've never handled dry ice before, DO NOT handle it with bare hands. Use welder's gloves and a dry towel to insulate your bare skin from the dry ice. A can of compressed air held up-side down so that the liquid comes out might also work on shrinking the bolt head and ******, but dry ice is colder.

Good luck.

as a general rule of thumb heat will expand things. heating and quenching only helps with rusted on hardware and quickly cooling metal can destroy its integrity.

Ah Grasshopper, you have much to learn. That just immobilizes the axle shaft, not the crank shaft. Now go shave your head again.

Tom

now I'm curious...

so then what if you heated the bolt up a little bit and cooled the pulley down with dry ice or something? shrinking its width and making the crank bolt bigger? then used methods to remove the bolt...sorry i might sound like an idiot...

500 dollars? is that a joke? I just dont know why'd you pay anyone that much for some info they would've most likely given for free. although i will admit it probably got more people to look at the thread. 500 dollars.... go buy a 3.2 from a j/y

how big of an impact gun were you using? Couldn't get mine off and tried to with starter bump, impact gun up to 250 ft-lbs, heat, and pb. Took it to my mechanic who fixes things relatively cheap. I think his gun goes up to 500 or 600 ft-lbs. He managed to pop it off.
It may be worth it to find someone local who has some high quality impact tools to get it off. Although if you don't have a trailer or dolly, it may be hard to get there.

A 3/4 impact and a larger size ****** and air hose. I do a lot of work on Locomotives and many bolts torque to 900 ft lbs. I's the volume of air more so than the air pressure. 150 lbs of air with the largest diameter ****** you can find should work. This is how I got mine off. The starter bump wouldn't work for me either. Took a 3/4 inch gun and more air volume for my 1989 MTX.

Some of our air guns go up to 1,800 ft lbs using 150+ psi.

Will using the starter 10 times do any damage to anything?

Guys, I was there and this thing is on there. I put all my ass into it (about a 4' breaker bar) and I'm not a small guy. I've never seen anything like this. Even the dude with the impact said he'd never seen it. He was at it with the impact gun for a good 15 minutes.

I never thought about the battery though. The car has been sitting for a while from what I understand.

Hey Chast! We'll have to try again next Sunday. This time, with a fully charged battery! ****, if we nuke the starter, I'll help ya change it:salute:!

Tony isn't a small Dude and he put a ton of @rse on the breaker bar.

PM me your Paypal or whatever you prefer Tom. $100 will go to you and I'll PM Bizzy to donate the other $400 once that damn bolt comes out. $500 is what I said I would pay and I'm a man of my word.

Where is this car? Lake City Florida....

Make sure you don't round off the bolt head.

That's what I'm worried about doing. Then I would truly be ******...then a 3.2 swap will be in order.

Once you get Tom's tool on there, get a 6 or 8 or more foot pipe to stick over the breaker bar. You'll be able to apply a lot more torque than any impact gun. Just be sure that you're using a 6-point socket.

PM me your address. You can pay me after you get the bolt out.
