Myself and SHO ROLLER (Tony) attempted the front 60K on my SHO today. The Crank Bolt will not come off.....

~We tried the bump start. Fail
~I paid someone come over with an impact gun to get it off. Fail
~We used a torch to heat the bolt and used the above referenced impact gun. Fail
~We used a 2 foot 1/2" drive breaker bar. Fail
~We used the above referenced breaker bar with a pipe to get more leverage. Fail

So, I have $500 to the person who can get the crank bolt off or suggest a way that hasn't been referenced above and get the bolt off...

Paypal or I can mail a money order....Come on forum, help me out!

Put it in gear, have friend step on brakes hard!!! Then use the pipe... if its not coming off, your not pushing hard enough.... if you need more room 4 bolts takes the hood right off...

Why didn't the bump start work? Socket fall off, or did the motor bind?

Motor Bind.

I had the car in 5th gear and I was STANDING on the brakes while SHO ROLLER was using the pipe trying to break the bolt....The hood came off long time ago while I was doing the top 60K....

$500 still up for grabs....:swing:

Try hitting the head of the bolt directly on top sharply several times.

He is pushing up on the pipe right? ;)

Also, how good is the battery in said car? Maybe try jumping it... with a running car.. make sure its getting enough voltage to the starter... double check battery cables, and wires at the starter, and the ground which should be the other end of your negative cable... should be one of your starter bolts.. make sure they are nice and tight...

Acetone / ATF... ;) Would / should help too..

Seriously.... I've seen a lotta people with a lotta bolts.... you just gotta get angry sometimes... Boat had a MM bolt he was working on one time... I just happend to drive by when he was workin on it, and I stopped to help... his problem was he wasn't using his legs to push off the side of the building when he was trying to break it loose... :) Sometimes it takes all ya got... some bolts just don't wanna let go. Tensile strength on that bolt should be pretty high, I don't think you can break it...

Come to think of it.. has anyone sheared a crank bolt before?

Get the breaker bar / pipe all the way down low close to the radiator.. keep the motor still.. (on brakes / in gear) and put the pipe on your shoulder... stand up into the bar and push with your arms at the same time... if its still hard... find another person.. it will come off... I've never been defeated with my 5' peice of 1 1/2" schedule 80 pipe and a 1/2" Craftsman... :)

And use a 6 sided / impact socket please.. :) It'll come off... its not like it can be rusty.. :)

Keep doing the starter bump, it will work eventually.

Even with a 300 ft. lb. impact on 175psi I've had 3 or 4 that just wouldn't budge, but repeatedly trying the starter bump always did the trick although on one I think I had to do it almost 20 times before it broke free.

i agree, if you are unable to get mad enough to break it free with a breaker bar and long cheater (which works for me on lots of things) then you should just keep on with the starter bump, only try heating it first.

For 100.00, I will make you a tool that will immobilize the engine so that you can use the breaker bar with a cheater pipe or a real impact wrench. 20.00 of that will go to the Forum as a donation.

I had the same problem with my 91 Plus.
We broke 3 sockets, one an impact while doing the bump method.
I got a impact socket from Napa and installed a fully charged battery.
I then jumped another car to it, running with the rpm's up.
After the second bump, it went.

Just drill holes along the ****** of the bolt to relieve the pressure, and hit it with the impact. It's what I had to do after using three different impacts, a torch, the starter bump method, and a ten foot breaker bar that couldn't do the job.

How would this tool be made? Does it replace the starter?

1 1/8" holesaw will do it.

What these guys said.

My 91 currently has a damaged crank bolt that is going to require a hole saw to remove the ******...

Will using the starter 10 times do any damage to anything?

Guys, I was there and this thing is on there. I put all my ass into it (about a 4' breaker bar) and I'm not a small guy. I've never seen anything like this. Even the dude with the impact said he'd never seen it. He was at it with the impact gun for a good 15 minutes.

I never thought about the battery though. The car has been sitting for a while from what I understand.

Hey Chast! We'll have to try again next Sunday. This time, with a fully charged battery! ****, if we nuke the starter, I'll help ya change it:salute:!
