I just bought a c/f fiber hood of another forum member and I wasn't planning on installing hood pins until I did a search on here about people losing there hoods. Anyways I can't get mine to latch at all so I was wondering what a good brand of hood pins are and how to install them.

Got mine on ebay , like 10 bucks. but its the really basic ones.

For installing its all about measuring 150 times before you touch anything.

Where did you get your hood? Any trouble lining it up with the fenders?

I actually like those pins, I don't want anything fancy. When you drilled the holes does it matter what side you drill from. Looks like I may damage something if I drill from the bottom.

I thought of it but it never happened (yet).

This is a SHOSOURCE hood , and it fits perfectly its only a matter of aligning it , but its not harder then aligning a regular hood.

You need to install the "studs" first , in the area of the hood stoppers , the keyword is MEASUREMENTS.

Once the studs are in I applies some touch up paint to top of the studs and closed gently the hood , and voila I had my makrs to drill. make sure you measure you makrs ON THE HOOD too , to make sure your studs are straight.

I installed the pins first....I then put a glob of white out on the top of the pins...closed the hood and I had my marks for drilling....Worked great....

I installed my CF hood a few weeks ago and just because it won't latch doesn't mean blow it off and use only pins!! Shitheads will mess with your car when you're not around,
I just would hate to read that post.
FWIW I use a white glue dot to line up stuff, it's water based and I can keep checking fitment.
I'll be ordering new adjustable bumpers later today too.
As far as the latch not lining up, It's 2 screws holding the latch on. There was shims behind mine and there's two pins on the back of the latch that center it. I used a dremel w/ a ceramic tile cutting bit and ovaled the holes up to raise the latch about 1/4 inch. I just drove Neno to Tonys house this morning doing 80 for 2 hours and all's well.
I will be working on trying to epoxy a pc. of flatstock steel/alum/something to the bottom along the edges where it meets th fender, just cant live with it flush at the window, flush at the headlight and 1/4 high along the fender. I'm also planning on a screen on the back of the cowl, kinda an ugly view of fiberglass from the drivers seat.

Before you choose where to drill , make sure you check where its gonna land on the hood just to make sure you pin wont land on a hood boss (bump) where its gonna be awkward (sp?) to drill the hood.

You will also need a die grinder + cutting wheel to cut the side of the rad support to be able to slide the nut under. you'll see what im talking about when you're ready to install it.

i personally like the torsion style pins.....i put mine not to far from the cowl, didnt like the way they looked if i was to replace the bump stops with em.......id highly recommend putting on scuff plates if you go with any pin style as apposed to latch style

in a few ill c if i can dig out some pics

to install i measured a million times (but i hit a deer a couple yeas ago so the core support isnt 100% straight........alot just put toothpaste or somthing on the tips of the pins and close the hood (very gently) on them then drill out were the paste is
