I recently referred to Ashley and Paul in another thread, but again it seems applicable. I believe Paul's turbo SHO uses a diesel truck turbo also. Maybe they can give a suggestion. IIRC, it's not a radical amount of power, but its certainly no turd.

This thread has failed.
I feel sorry for the origional poster.
Mabye he can find some help elsewhere.

To the other's, take your "smack talk" elsewhere.

yeah this post has been ruined by all of you that started arguing over things that are way off target of the original post that I posted! thanks to all that actually helped or realized that this was way off point!

While I may have contributed to some of the 'hot air' being spewed, there was technical merit in those posts, albeit that is an entire other thread. In my defense, I was the very first person to respond to the thread, and was concise and informative.

Sorry about that, Randy. I'll take the blame on this one. I know you are looking for a turbo head unit model number that will provide you with:

Low spool time
Capable of producing boost from xxxxRPM to 7000+RPM
Readily available

I don't know a lot about the different compressor maps, and toolman didn't give you much help so if I had to guess, I'd pick the smallest one from the biggest engine you can find.

I suppose I could have simply given randy the name of a specific turbocharger that I think would fit his needs, but that would, IMO, have been a disservice to him. ANYONE planning a custom turbocharged vehicle owes it to themselves to get very familar with compressor maps, pressure ratios, their target vehicle, their specific needs/wants, etc, etc, etc.

In addition to my first post, let me add, DO NOT USE A DIESEL turbocharger. Get a turbocharger designed to fit the needs of your specific setup. Last I checked, there are not many 7300rpm 3.0 low boost turbo diesels to choose from.

Unless of course when the manufacturer stuck the turbo on at the factory they used a turbo that was designed for a 3 liter high revving gas engine that they got really cheap, just so they could say, "hey look! We gots a turbo on our diesel truck too".

I think the original poster was looking for advice on what to get that would be off the junkyard "shelf", rather than what compressor wheel and turbine to order from Turbonetics or Honeywell. If I go with a turbo on Another Woman, it will be twins from a small 2.5 Chrysler.

On another note, I just saw a new Challenger with dual STS remote turbos on it. What a plumbing nightmare; well done, but still a nightmare.

Toolman............that would have answered his question.

Maybe he doesnt want to get a phd in turbos, he just wants some advice on what to use. A disservice would be having the information, and not giving it. If he wants to get familiar with the maps, he can read your sticky on the matter.

No disrespect meant.

None taken. Back to the original post, a turbonetics t3/4 hybrid with a turbine a/r in the 70's would be a good starting point. But for me to really know whcih turbo to reccomend, I need more information from randy as to exactly what he wants from the car. Even within a specific size of turbo, there are many variables that will effect the performance of said turbo. Again, that is why I gave him the original suggestions that I did. But I get your and others points, they are well taken, and I will try to show that in my future posts. I certainly was not trying to keep information from randy, as there was no 'right' answer.

Hey Randy, I want the same thing, probably about one or two years further down the road. So when you get yours finished take a picture for me huh?

Thanks,

IMHO, a turbo is more efficient, (as it's been proven)

however, compared to a supercharger, they will reduce the life of your engine much faster. your dealing with much more heat. they heat the oil, and typically run hotter inlet temperatures than a supercharger. of course, intercooling and the other types of charge cooling (meth injection, nitrous, etc) can negate this a little. that aside, a supercharger gives you boost via rpm and can save your engine, and still give you sweet power. it's probably a little easier to install, but the cost is the same or more for a supercharger. its all preference, i'm just adding a little .02 cents after reading the first page. sorry to hijack if this argument is over, LOL. good luck with the turbo setup
