well I am in the very early stages of my turbo project and i need some input....i am wanting to run low boost of 6-7psi on a mostly stock 3.0 setup with an IC'er! please don't try to make this into a "you are wasting your time post" after much searching and reading this is what i want for my car, something that just adds a little kick!
1. what turbo do I need to acheive this low boost....be specific?
2. i have read that some mitubishi turbos will work?

I have a local shop that is very well respected in my area that has already agreed to tune it and burn me a diablo chip no problem!

please constructive input only! thanks in advance!!!!

Stay away from the shop, they will blow the car up. Get a Tweecer, use a draw through MAF setup (not blow-through), and the tune will be fairly straightforward. Find a site that has a compressor map of the turbo you want, and got to the sticky turbo thread to find out how to read the comp maps.

dont mean to still your thread, but why a draw through set up? easier to tune? good luck on the build.

Draw-thru setups generally have less turbulance running through the MAF. Turbulance has funny effects on the MAF being able to read the incoming air.

I found a perfect turbo for low psi boost. However, I am planing twin turbo later down the road between 5-6 psi. Your are more than likely looking at a single system. The turbo that I have selected has its own independent oiling system, no lines required, and if done correctly will act like that new ecoboost engine as far as power production.

The turbo company is Aerocharger. The turbos use turbin oil that gets change in 20,000mile intervals. The 53000 Series with 114 Compressor would be a perfect choice in a twin turbo setup, 70% effenciency through 60% of engine rpm.

At 5-6 psi your transmission will thank you, and if sized properly could make more boost sooner than these 14psi and up SHO's. Its all a matter of opinion...

Yup, and then drop flat on its face :O

I think putting a jackstand underneath the whole natural curve is a little bit more impressive than a peak number, IMO. Plus you get "DRIVEABILITY", not to be mistaken with "DRINKABILITY."

The engine could be fuel effecient, and 80% compressor effecient at 2500-3000 rpm. No longer do you downshift to make passing manouvers....

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I have a gt 42 and make peak tq/hp at 4.4K....

And it is way faster than a stocker bellow that..

I don't have to downshift. I can stay in 5th gear at 70 and run away from a modded sho that drops 3rd gear.

Ok, how about a 2800lbs SHO with 325 hp?

How fast?

^ Just sayin', given the right application, 6 psi can be good healthy fun. With a huge turbo yes, 6 psi would probably suck but you can't generalize and then refer to a specific setup like your own.

for getting the right turbo for what you wanna do you have to ask a few things first. like how much am i welling to spend and how much power do i want. also do you wanna do it right or just do it. heres a good read http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Comp...ptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories. i used this book to do my supra build and i took the time to do the math for everything, well all most everything. but i did look at the turbo maps and compared then to the numbers that i wanted. this book will help you out alot.

another good thing to look into is maybe a rear mounted turbo. you not going to cook you oil, colder inlet temp, and with the right turbo your not going to have to worry about much more lag that with a turbo of the header/turbo manifold type. plus your not going to have to find some one that will charge out the ass for a custom turbo manifold. just something to look at. good luck with what ever you go with.

You dont' have to do a custom turbo manifold, just a custom downpipe..

I'm so glad my SHO is faster then yours.

Im going with a GT-30, its good for up to 500 CHP at higher boost, which is ~425 WHP, I plan on hitting between 330 and 350 WHP at lower boost, say 8-10 PSI. It will be much more fun in my opinion then a huge turbo, the max hp/tq numbers wont be as big, but it will make it alot faster then a larger turbo. I want somthing good for between the 0-110ish range, i dont know how often i will even get higher if even that high, but i know daily driving i will be right in that range, so why put a huge turbo in if i will never use it in the speedrange its shines in?

eh trust me bro, I was totally unimpressed with my car at 5 psi. If you are going to spend the money to do a turbo run 10 psi at least. The stock engine can take that with no problem if it is tuned correctly.

You sir, have become a boost snob.
That's as nice as I can put it.

6PSI is a rockin good time.
