Depending on exactly how bad the lenses are, you could use some type of plastic polish. I bought some at Wal-Mart and it's made a huge difference on my 97, and I'm sure it would help any year SHO.
They will need to be repolished every few months, though. Otherwise they'll start to haze over.

when you used the 800 and 1500grit sand paper, did you wet sand?

You can get brand new Mercury Sable headlamps and use your existing fish tank. These are much cheaper than even the $100 quoted above. It would be foolish to pay those premium prices...but more power to ya.

New headlights have a UV coating to reduce the yellowing effect. Over time the coating deteriorates and you have the yellow headlight look. They can be polished (good recommendations on previous posts, I would use the 800/1500 grit sandpaper then a good polish with some kind of light paint polish, then a plastic polish if you have a buffer use that with a foam pad after the sandpaper). Problem is the polishing is a temporary fix. Without the UV coating (now completely gone from the polishing) in a few weeks the headlights will look the same or worse. Then you have to do the work all over again. The only permanent fix is to replace the lights.

After you polish the headlights and if I were to apply a clear gloss, would the gloss act as a UV coating to prevent the yellow from coming back?
