i have a 89 mtx thats not a daily driver and i went to start it the other day and it wouldnt idle and didnt want to rev so i shut it off and today i went back out to start it to check it out and i let it run holding my foot on the gas and it cleared up after about 2-3 minutes like it was loaded up woth fuel then i started to see all kinds off smoke from under the car so i looked and i was like holy s*** the y pipe at the cats was glowing orange and there was a little fire on the on cat could this be from all the fuel i kno it needs a oxygen sensor but could this cause it please help

holy crap... sounds like something is definitely causing the exhaust gases to be wayyy to hot...duh:nut: If there was to much fuel it could be burning up excess fuel in the exhaust, but Iv never herd anything like that problem kinda scary actually:oogle:

holly $HIT MAN,, it sounds scary ,, be careful next time you go to start the thing make sure you have called the fire truck and them to stay close enough so can put the thing down if something catches in lightning...:nut:

Cats are clogged, the car is prolly running rich to make that happen over time as well. So like was said you need a new Y-pipe, cats or gut out the one you have. And then you may be in need of a tune up as well.

Cats are probably disintegrated. All the dust/sludge have clogged the pipes.

Plugs are probably fouled at this point also.

thanks for the help im goin to drop the y pipe and gut the cats....wish i had the money for the catless y pipe :dribble:

i dropped the y pipe and cut them open all the guts were melted together so i guess they got pretty hot:oogle: now there nice and empty ready to flow
