I HATE MY CAR! Over the last week and a half my starter has been going bad and it won't start unless I hit the solenoid with the back of a hammer. Now, I have made and appointment to get it fixed, and in order to get the car in, it involves starting the damn thing and it won't start. I bang on the solenoid while my friend trys to start it, and it doesn't work anymore. It just makes that famillar clicking noise then a little mechanincal whine. Sometimes these damn cars are more of a pain in the ass than fun. Is there any other technique I can use to get it goin? Thanks for the help, sorry I just had to vent.

I was thinking the same thing Rob. Check the sig. it's an ATX..
If it is the starter just pick one up and install it yourself.
Or try AAA to get it towed.

SHOtime93,,where in Michigan are you? There are a few guys around Detroit/suburbs. Also a couple in Monroe. I frequently travel the Detroit area.

My starter went out over the summer--it made an awful noise over at a friends house when I started it, next time I got nothing, headlights stayed bright. Having an MTX let me roll back and pop the clutch to get to the shop.

pjtoledo- I live in Grand Rapids. I know, there are a lot of SHO people in/around Detroit. Grand Rapids has a good number, but not all of them are on the forum.

If hitting the starter solenoid with a hammer makes your car start, maybe it's not the starter that is failing. It sounds more like your starter solenoid. Much less expensive and complicated to replace. Might want to check it out before replacing the starter.
