Hi,

Having some trouble starting my '90 SHO.

Began a couple days ago, when I stalled it pulling out in reverse (didnt give it enough gas when releasing the clutch and it stalled). It then refused to start, cranking but not starting. I let it rest for a couple minutes and then it fired right up.

Later that night it fired right up again when starting, and so I thought the problem was solved.

But, the next day it would only crank but no start, and has been like this for past couple days. I also charged the battery, so that should be ok.

Engine codes are 11, which is normal.

Check engine light stays on while it cranks. Tach bumps up to ~200 while cranking.

Any suggestions? If it is the CPS, how much can I expect to pay to have a mechanic (not ford dealer mechanic, but local guy that I mostly trust) install the CPS?

thanks for any help, i'm tearing my hair out without my beloved SHO!

check fuel/air/spark first. really check fuel, because it's almost always the culprit in a no-start situation. Turn the key to 'run' but not 'start, and make sure you can hear the fuel pump run. Throw a gallon of gas in the tank if you are near empty, just to make sure the gage isnt out of cal. Press the little pin the the bicycle-tire valve inbetween the intake runners to make sure there's pressure. Make sure your fuel filter isn't clogged. My money is on the fuel pump, as they are notorious for giving out.

thanks for the suggestion. I did use a fuel pressure gauge on the valve on the fuel rail and it showed ~30psi after the fuel pump came on, so I think that is working ok.

there is a 1/4 tank of fuel showing on the gauge.

Hmm, it sounds to me like it could also be the CID (camshaft position sensor) which is known to cause intermittent starting problems. I would check that out before the CPS, as it is pretty easy and cheap to replace.
