On my way home from school the other day I pulled up to a stop sighn and my ar quit and since I was still rolling I poped the clutch and the engine started but when I tried to go it wouldn't. Here is the weird part. The following Friday I went to check it out and guess what... the car went. What do you think it might have been? eek!

That sounds at first like the symptoms for a failing crankshaft position sensor (CPS). When the engine cut out while you were rolling, did the tach drop to zero even thought the engien was still spinning? If the answer to that question is, "yes," then the CPS is the most likely culprit. The best source for this part is the Wells SU242 sensor from AutoZone or AutoZone.com for $41.99.

If the answer was, "no," then it may be a failing fuel pump. With the engine not running, turn the ignition key to ON and listen for the fuel pump. It should spin for about 2 seconds to pressurize the fuel system. The pump should give out a steady, high pitched whine. If there is any pulsing, gurgling or strained pump sounds, your fuel pump may be on its last leg.

Your brief description sounds more like the CPS.

The engine problem is not what is bothering me I know what that is, it is the TPS because in the idle position the sensor is just so old it has been rubbed to nothing. My problem is the tranny problem / axle. Don malison told me that it could have been an axle slip out then when i had it towed home the axle could have worked itself back into place. I just put a new fuel pum and CPS on the car. I also just changed the engine and tranny but I like a dummy put the old intake on it witht the old TPS on it. I can acctually change my fuel pump in about half an hour because I cut an access hole in the floor pan and made a cover to go over it so all I have to do is remove the rear seat and pull the cover and pull the pump. Thanks for the input but not the direction I was going in.

A little more information would have be helpful. The TPS won't usually cause the engine to stop running. It will just make it a bit less responsinve to throttle tip-in.
