Seeing as i am working on getting my SHO back on the road how important are the covers that are missing in this pic? They were removed by the last guy that worked on it and seeing as the car became a issue to afford at the time and was parked. I was wondering if they serve a purpose other than protecting my fingers? :thankyou:

They keep things out of the timing belt, like rocks if the lower ones are gone. They would also keep the DIS wiring from hitting the belt too, but a lot of guys (including me) don't have upper timing covers without issue.

Never thought of leaving the belt cover off, but I guess is doesn't matter except for the finger thing you mentioned and keeping important other things from contacting the belt like the cps wire and the dis wires.

I've run without any of the covers for years without a single problem on a hard driven DD.

How do you install the middle cover? I have tried with no success becuase it keeps hitting something in the way and I cannot squeeze it in there.

It goes on first. Then the other two.

as I recall, the bottom one goes on first, then the middle, then the top.

Nyet. Middle goes on first. Crank sensor harness attaches directly over it. That way only the top and bottom covers are removed when replacing the sensor.

There is a damp in the way of the middle cover installation. I have heard that you have to take that whole entire assembly off before you can get the middle cover on. Since my car is in pieces at the moment, I am finally going to put the middle cover on.
