Wondering about oil pressure gauge!

I have run both ... mechanical and electric.

The mechanical is significantly harder to feed the line ( I used cooper )through the fire wall up to were I had the guages mounted.

I use sun pro guages and they allow u only 6 ' of line. 7 feet would have been better. Though the mechanical is better ..... and this is what i used ... it took me some time to get it routed to were I had enough room to mount the tubing to my gauge.

IF u break the line your gauge will read 0 immediatly ..... and tell u way before u have a motor problem. I always am monitering my gauges.

I have been going through a significant amount of oil since I installed mine (mech)
I was under my car the other night and noticed oil dripping from the tube right as it enters the brass fitting. I tightened up the fitting, and I think that solved that, but out of uncertainty, I think I am going to remove the guage. I don't want to though.

Nonsense. You would notice the oil scalding your legs before that happened and the pressure reading on the gauge would drop considerably. And if you aren't going to watch the gauge, it shouldn't be there in the first place.
It's over on the shotimes, you can't change the fact that it didn't happen to SOMEONE , SOMEWHERE , to some SHO out there. I don't want any plumbing inside the car, which is why I chose a gauge from a reputable manufacturer. I can honestly say that the diaphragm type sensor that is used with my guage is accurate compared to a similar mechanical counterpart. To each his own.
I'm sorry. I don't believe it. Sometimes people get confused on what the mechanic told them, or two unrelated problems happen at the same time, or things get mixed around through the grape vine.

If it truly did happen, they did not read the gauge. Reading the gauge like you are supposed to would have shown that there was a problem. As mentioned above, if there is a leak the gauge will immediately drop pressure. If that happens to you and you are stupid enough to keep driving the car, then perhaps your bearings may spin. I still don't think it happenned though.

I hope you don't think I am an ******* . I'm not fighting whether you are right or wrong, but I am questioning whether your source had their information right.

I had the same problem with mine. It ended up being that the tube wasn't in the fitting far enough. The crimp has to be nice and tight, and the tube has to be in far enough, or the compression won't be tight enough. And you can't reuse the ferrals(I can't think of the word right now, the little things that get compressed). You have to buy new ones.

yeah, I had to buy a whole new kit just for the ferrel :mad: . (I installed it wrong the first time)
And tody I noticed Autozone has the copper tubing... but I'm through puttuing more $ into a $15 guage.

Did your guage have low readings because of the leak? Mine didn't/doesn't. At least I don't think so. 14-15 PSI at warm idle. Around 40 PSI warm driving.

So then the way i read it is. That it is up to you really if u want elec or mech gauge. The mech gets a better reading but the oil line is dumb to run and if u get a leak..... But then elec is easyer to install but it doesn't get that good of a reading. Does the elec have that bad of a reading???

If you can run a wire you can run the copper tubing. It is easy to get in any length and the ferrules can be had individually. If you ***** things while tightening the compression nut (not likely) just cut it off and try again.
