Ok i just bought some lunar series gauges for my sho an air/fuel and volts. And i orderd the triple A-pilar gauge pod.I also want to get the oil pressure gauge. Now i know for the oil pressure gauge there is an electrical and mechanical gauge which is better for the sho. Could you even use a electrical oil gauge in the sho?

Thanks for the help

Sure you can use an electrical oil pressure gauge. Unless you want to run an oil line up your a-pillar.

I've alsways prefered mechanical gauges. They are much more responsive. FWIW

I'll take an electrical oil pressure gauge any day of the week. Why? Because after hearing about people losing their rod bearings due to a broken nylon capillary tube....I think I'll pass.

Use copper.

even if the line busted... wouldn't you be able to notice it??? (I am assuming the pressure would drop considerably). No?

Nonsense. You would notice the oil scalding your legs before that happened and the pressure reading on the gauge would drop considerably. And if you aren't going to watch the gauge, it shouldn't be there in the first place.

I used 3 different electronic sensors with my oil pressure gauge and each of them gave me a different reading. The mechanical gauge is right on the money, has a wider sweep, and is a lot quicker responding. I have an oil line going up my a pillar, under my dash, and through my firewall and it doesn't worry me at all. Unless you crimp it or don't secure it to the gauge and the sender properly there is no need to worry.

The sender probably looks like a dome with a threaded end on it. You basically just put the adapter on the threaded end and then thread that into your existing oil pressure sensor "hole" and then run the signal wire to the gauge.

Just go get an electric oil gauge. You will have to buy a sender that works with your gauge(get it from the same place, they will have it).

All that the sender does is screw into your block where the oil presure sensor was. Then you hook a wire to it that goes to the gauge. It's the way to go, it won't leak inside your car this way either.

If you still want to have your stock oil presure light on the dash just put in a "T" so that you can hook both the senders to the block....Like so....

You will probably only have one wire going to your sender instead of two.

Hope this helps,
Efren

It matters what kind you want to get... I know i'm going all autometter lunar series gauges in my sho and the oil pressure gauge is 81.00 from summit. You can proablly find it cheaper then that some where else...

You can buy the copper tubing from Summit or Jegs. It's in the same place as their Autometer products in their catalog.
Or at any auto parts store.

It's over on the shotimes, you can't change the fact that it didn't happen to SOMEONE , SOMEWHERE , to some SHO out there. I don't want any plumbing inside the car, which is why I chose a gauge from a reputable manufacturer. I can honestly say that the diaphragm type sensor that is used with my guage is accurate compared to a similar mechanical counterpart. To each his own.

I'll have to agree with Mike. Anyone who lost enough oil through a broken oil line going to a mechanical gauge is an idiot. Isn't that what the oil level warning light is for?
