So i've read the past threads about how to clean this thing out.

My question is how to get the cap off without killing it, I've triied using a small screwdriver but i seem to just be mauling the edges, I've triied pulling on it and I feel like i'm going to yank the stalk right out of the switch.

Any other ideas without killing it? Does it have to be rotated a certain degree to get the thing out?

ok, i figured out that I'm not supposed to try and pry off the entire rotating peice, just the small end cap :nut:

Unfortunately this is not the culprate, the connections all looked good, and the dielectric grease was still clear/white in color. Unless I am suppose to take off the small circular circiut board as well

So I still have the same problem.

no wiper action, everything else works, even the washer pump.

I already triied a different used motor (took the wiring harness off intalled motor and plugged it into a different unit (used)) with no luck.

Still am getting a clicking sound coming from the instrament panel when I rotate the switch to the on position.

So my guess is that its either the entire MFS or the governor.

Any bets??? :frown: or other ideas??

Pre '93 they are called an Interval Governor and after '93 they are called the Wiper Module. Both are on the LH vertical IP brace located behind the radio cluster.

ok, so my govenor on my '94 is now called the module :corn:

i heard it was behind the instament cluster, but your saying behind the radio

Before I start ripping stuff out can I get a conformation on the location, and when I rip apart my dash what am I exactly looking for?

And finally should I clean, fix, or replace the darn thing once I find it?

Please treat me as a 9 year old school girl when it comes to car electrical stuff.
mechanical and audio I am proficient, but electrical I cant tell a relay from a switch.

Thanks

Well I have never had to deal with the nefarious module/governor. I am going by diagrams which show it on the instrument panel brace. I would assume you can see it from the drivers foot well. I doubt if you could repair it but the connector may be loose or corroded.

It has one connector that has 12 wires on it. It is also a common Taurus part.

I'm thinking of just replacing the whole darn switch just to be sure and working from there. :cuss:

That is always an option.

Look here to see how to test the switch.

Darn paul, when you try and help you really try and help!! :thumb:

well I've ordered the new switch already, and I figure since its on its way and the column will be off anyway I might as well replace. and if it works.... well.... 50 bucks isnt that bad. if it were say 75 i would most certainly test the leads.

Thanks again

BTW Paul since I have you (or anyone else for that matter) here could you tell me what wire to snip to get rid of my e-brake light??? It's like a little glowing red light that stares at me whenever I drive. :banghd:

Thanks

On my '97 the MFS would barely work the wipers and I bought a new switch. After installing the new one I took the old one and hosed it down with WD40 while working all the different motions. That switch tested out good as new when I was done.

I'm sure that picture will be used in the future.

Ok, so I took out the old MFS (remember what was wrong with it? No wipers at all) and unplugged the harnesses and plugged them into brand new one... SAME PROBLEM! :madflame: When looking at the old as compared to the new in relation to the pins, they almost look identical in color and form (no dirt or grime), if not looking at the external wear on the old I would not be able to tell the difference.

So I reinstalled the old with the same problem with some additionals.
Now when my HL's come on and I signal left the side light comes on and stays on :nut:

just to make sure Im not missing anything, as far as the motor goes all I should have to do to test the new one is unplug the 1 harness and stick it into the new 1 right??? doesn't have to be mounted right???

You did get one for a '94 yes? The best way to test the switch is with an ohm meter as the test procedure states.

I'm gonna go with your WCM (Wiper Control Module) on this one. It's behind the IP, above the chime box, on the same bracket.

When I get home later, I'll see if I can find the extra one I have lying around. It's in good shape. If I can find it, you cover shipping and it's yours. :thumb:

PM me if your interested.
