Are the GenI and II especially prone to windshield cracks?

These are not cracks caused by stone chips, but cracks that occur from simply sitting (in one case).
They start in a corner (any corner it seems) and works it way across the windshield.
Is it the severe temperature changes these things see?
Is it the way the windshields are attached with the glue?

I have a 56 Skyliner and a 56 Meteor Crown Victoria, both of these have the original windshields, so what gives?
These windshields sit is a rubber channel, so that is one difference.

Anyone else have an issue with windshields?

If the installer did not apply pinchweld primer when the windshield was out, rust could push up on the glass and create localized contact stress starting a crack. Also I know in hot climates that heating from the sun can actually pressurize a car cabin. Your 56's probably have controlled leaks. Main issue I have had is windshield leaking, thanks to the lack of pinchweld primer by my now out of business windshield replacer.

during an extra cold winter a couple years ago long cracks started at tiny stone chips while the cars were sitting all winter.

Yea, I am out of ideas and I thank everyone who offered an explanation.

My 96 Mustang convertible has never had a windshield problem and it sits in the same cold climate and drives the same roads the other cars do. And what car windshield experiences more flex and shake than a convertible?

I have 4 SHOs and they all have cracked windshields. The last failure could be explained by Zak as I had the windshield replaced a few years earlier by the local guy who could have skipped the primer and been light on the adhesive which acts as a dampener. But it was after a winter where it was stored and not driven.

All of my SHOs were bought by me in the autumn of their years, and they all probably had windshields replaced due to our strict ownership transfer rules. So that could be something that connects them.

Years ago, before my mother quit driving at age 95, I bought her a 93 regular Taurus (which she specified to have crank windows and a shifter on the column), that car too developed a cracked winshield!

Thanks to all!
