On idle, I hear a slight high pitched sound that sounds like an "off tuned whistle." I hear the sound everytime I go around the back of the car. The sounds appears to be coming from the right rear exhaust area. A visual inspection did not get me into any conclusion that the exhaust is the problem.

Is this the time to take it to a local Midas or Meineke shop? Perhaps a new Dynomax and mufflers? Your inputs are greatly appreciated.

Are you sure it's not the fuel pump? If it is an exhaust whistle, it is likely from the muffler's baffles or passages that have been corroded or blocked. No matter, it will need to be replaced. Is it a stock muffler? Midas may provide more insight, but expect tham to offer to sell you a new muffler.

SdPatt,

One thing I observed is that once I rev the engine, the sound seems to disappear momentarily. However, it might be just the engine noise that covers up the whistling noise at high rpm. As for the fuel pump, I do hear the pump kick on before start up and the sound goes away. Perhaps not the fuel pump...I am gearing towards the muffler area at this time. And the muffler, yes, it is the stock muffler with 116K+ miles on it. Thanks for your input.

I feel it is time for a new catback system + muffs.

Well, here's the reason, you put one of these goodies on the exhaust.
