Aren't there some simple improvements I can make to the trans fluid plumbing?
Swapping out the steel lines for rubber trans fluid line?
Should I bypass the radiator? I have a small aux cooler in place in addition to the stock tube.
What hardware will I need?
I'd like to get everything bought so it's on hand. Spending hours chasing down a bolt or hose fitting when I'm elbow deep in repairs REALLY ****** me off. :madflame:

I would bypass the cooler part going into the rad. I have done that to both of the 98s i had. I have a med duty aux cooler and routed the return line off of it to the cooler Ford had installed above the PS cooler.

I'm elbows deep in the trans removal process.

My instructions say to remove 5 upper trans bolts. I found 4.
Looking at the trans from the driver's side of the engine compartment --
One's above the starter at about the 10 o'clock position, two are at the 12 o'clock position, one's toward the back at about the 2 o'clock position. They all thread from the driver's side toward the passenger's side.

I don't know where the 5th is.
I think I found one at about the 3 o'clock position that threads the opposite direction.
Am I looking in the right place?

Don't forget the three or so bolts in the area where the PS axle goes into the trans.

Use some 1/4" mNPT x 3/8" brass hose barbs to replace the OEM trans cooler line fittings then just use 3/8" hose to replace the steel lines. You can also drill out the 3/8" barb to 7/16" if you want.
