Hey all,
I am in the middle of a 3.2 swap and have searched the forum and found nothing so far on the topic of locating an oil pump. I have heard that 3.2 and 3.0's use the same pump, but I have looked on websites and gone to auto parts stores and nobody has one. I was mostly going to replace it as preventive maintenance since the motor will be down to it's short block, but what's the deal on these pumps?

Junkyards are your friend.

That is about the only place. The 3.2 oil pump is specific for the 3.2 oil pan. The 3.0 will fit on a 3.2 with a 3.0 pan. I think thats how it goes. I owuld just use the pump on the motor as they dont go bad very often.

SP Motorsports was rebuilding oil pumps at one point. You could get a oil pump and find some one to spec it.

Sorry to hijack, but...

I'm doing a 3.2L swap too, so you're saying that I have to use my 3.0L oil pump on the 3.2L block with my 3.0L oil pan, or can I just keep the 3.2L oil pump on the 3.2L block, and use my 3.0L oil pan?

Crap, I wanted to use the 3.2's since that motor has way less miles than my outgoing 3.0. I think Eric D used the 3.2 pump with the 3.0 pan though and has been successful, I will call him and get back to you on this post.

I know you need to match the pump to the pan, Im not sure on how that affects the rest though.

I have heard that you can use the 3.2 pump with a 3.0 pan with some modifications.

I could be wring, but I didn't think the oil pan was a factor with the oil pump. If you can, use the 3.2 oil pump. It flow's a little more than the 3.0. You will need to add a piece of metal or plastic to the 3.2 oil pump, to fill the "gap" in the timing cover.

Well, it seems that there is a bit of uncertainty as to what works. I guess what I'll do is wait for my 3.2 block to arrive tuesday and take pictures for us all so that this question can have a solid answer. The only reason I don't want to use my 3.0's pump is because I threw a rod in that motor and the pan was covered in metal flakes, which means the pump had that run through it too. Anyway, unless there is someone who has used a 3.2 pump with the 3.0 pan I guess we will know for sure when I get around to checking on it tuesday or wednesday. Thanks for the input so far guys though, yet another donation has been made to the forum!
