Just curios, on my '93 3.2L ATX, there is a part on the drivers side, rear corner of my intake manifold, it consists of a silver can shaped thing with a wire connecting to it, it also connects to the silve box that is bolted onto the back side of the intake manifold via 2 vacum lines (i think that is the secondairey control?). On the bottom of the can shaped part there is a solid pipe that connects inserts into a hole that is under the rear valve cover. When i was removing my intake manifold, the entire asemble i just desrcibed fell out of the hole under the valve cover; when i later re-installed the intake manifold i simply bolted the assembly back the way it orginally was. However, i'm not sure if where the metal pipe inserted into the hole under the valve cover is sealed all the way. First, what the heck is the assembly I described? Second, what does it do? and finally, if it's not sealed into the hole, what will happen, and can what can I do to correct this?

Sounds like your describing your EGR valve (round UFO lookin like thing) and DPFE sensor (two vaccum lines, silver box). If it wasn't right, you'd get a CE light and probably hear the exaust if it wasn't bolted tight.

What you are describing is the EGR valve, which re-circulates exhaust gases back into the intake tract to improve emissions.

Oh, ok, since I live in Louisiana, then that doesn't really mater to much b/c we don't have emisions standards?
