What type of spring is this?

On my junkyard journey today I ran across a gen2 with an odd set of springs. It was completely stock save for a set of new front end links. But since these springs looked pretty hefty I grabbed them.

Does anyone know what they are? Moog CCs perhaps? Maybe something else? Anyone?

This is probably the best shot Ive got....

Motorcraft strut/coil on top.

Monroe strut, and MOOG coil on bottom.

And after looking at my photo, Im thinking you have a different type of coil. The taper at the bottom of the coil is different.

That is a FRONT strut/spring, correct?

It definitly is.

That was something laying around in someones shop that fit the perch and they went for it. Nice find!! Looks like a coilover spring kinda.. And look at that, sitting in the yard.. no rust. unbeleivable.

Of course, this is cali baby!!

I do see the slight differences between the ones I have and Kenny's MOOGs though. Does anyone have any pictures of shoshop linears? I can dream can't I?

I have some SS linears here. Those have 3 more coils.

I was looking at kenny's picture again. These springs aren't progressive rate like the MOOGs he posted. Does anyone have pics of SS linears? I'm beginning to think these ones are just custom springs.

Mike, why do you think they'd be like a pogo stick? Linear is the way to go from a performance perspective, as long as the rate is correct. It will always be consistant, the street ride may not be too hot though.

My guess is that those springs are a linear stock replacement spring. They appear to be on the GR-2 strut, which we know is a stock equivalent.

Has experience with linear springs has been that they are generally made for performance (higher spring rate) and are significantly bouncier than their progressive counterpart. They are definetely the way to go on the track since you don't have to throw your weight around to get to the firm part of the spring but for a daily driver the worst I would want to go is with a set of Intraxes.

My thinking about them being stock and the struts being stock replacements was because you mentioned the car was completely stock other then the struts/springs.

Update! I pulled the strut assemblies apart today and took a closer look at the springs. On the bottom coil they have "U858 MA" stamped into them.
