What seems to be the problem with Gen 1's and aftermarket lights?

Why is it that no company has produced L.E.D.s for the Gen 1 cars? I know that when I tried to install just the bulbs, the wattage wasn't enough in them to keep the bulb out light from coming on, and it didn't really look right anyway. I did replace the license plate bulbs with L.E.D.s, but then got stopped by a local who happened to catch the light in his rear view from half a block away who told me it caused a hazard..(banging head on keyboard). Anyway, does anyone know why there are no kits for the Gen 1s, or did I answer my own question with the wattage? Any response is appreciated. Merry Christmas to all my SHO family and may you all have a happy 2011....Congress willing (hahahahahaha....sigh)

Any LED lamp is going to cause the LOM to send a warning. The fix is to unplug the LOM.

On why there's no aftermarket... I didn't expect to see anything ever materialize for the Gen 2, and then one day someone posted up the eBay link of the very first set of LED taillights.

I clicked "Buy It Now" less than 5 minutes later.

And then the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th sets showed up. And so it goes.

I think the real issue is that the Gen 1 cars are becoming more and more scarce, which is why there is such a disparity in aftermarket lighting between the two Gens.

On which LED to get... you'd do well to give AutoLumination.com a look, but I'll warn you now, the good modules start at $25 each. You'll need 4 to do the taillights alone. Good LED lighting is expensive, and in this arena, you definitely get what you pay for.

Good luck.

I've spent well over $400 converting all the lights on the outside (and most of the inside) to LED. The only halogen bulbs left on the outside are the fog lights (headlights are HID), and I plan to change that soon as well. LEDs are expensive, yo.
