I have to buy 2 asap because of baldness then maybe another 2 weeks I will get the other 2. But I was told I should def go with a v rated tire because of the high performance nature of the sho. I am right now looking at the

Bridgestone Potenza G019 Grid tires at discount tire. should i just get the stock 215/60/16? Anyone recommend any different tires. they also must be all season too, since i live in michigan

No, you don't have to get V rated tires. If you have suspension work done for better handling, a V, Z, or W tire can give crisper response, but H is fine.

The 215/60/16 size is fine on your stock slicers.

I'm not a fan of all-season tires (I run summer & winter tires).

In looking at the Discount Tire online site, the Falken 512s are good a/s tires, and they are H-rated. If you want V, the Goodyear Eagle GTs are good, but they are $101 versus $78 for the Falkens.

Discount Tire Online showed Out Of Stock for the G 019, but Tire Rack shows them for $87. Don't know anything about them, but they sound fine.

I like the Eagle GTs - people I know who have them like them and they look decent too.

I just bought some Continental Extreme Contact DW's. Not sure of the ride yet as I havent driven on them, but another guy here has them and said they have great wet and dry traction.

I wanted to preserve the OEM Goodyear GT+4s on the red '89, so I bought a set of Eagle GTs for another set of lace wheels to keep on the car while it's parked, and for occasional drives. Figured they were as close as I could come to the original tires. They seem good, but can't tell much with 100 easy miles over the last 2 years!!

I've had real good sucess with the General Exclaim UHP(V-rated summer) on my SHO as well as the Altimax HP(H-rated all-season) on my son's Focus. They both offer great performance and value. Both are available at tirerack.com

If you haven't gone to Discount Tire yet, PM me your email addy, and I can forward a discount of $100 for FOUR wheels or tires installed. And it's only good for 4/16 & 4/17. I know you only want two tires at a time, but this is a pretty good deal.

The G019s are a good handling tire, as were the predecessor, the G009, but they will chop up on the edges after they're about 1/3 to a half worn, and sound like you have mud tires on your car. I work for Firestone, see them every day. I have a set of 225/55/16 w rated Bridgestone Potenza Re960 pole positions on my ATX, and I love them . Kick ass in the rain, handle better then the Goodyear assurances that were on it before, and both of them were miles better then the generic T rated Kumhos that came on it.

If you are going to be driving your car at very high sustained speeds the the v rated is better than the H rated. Sorry to point out the obvious - but being cheap like I am I'd just assume get the H rated as I have no need to be driving at speeds over 101 mph for long periods of time. I'd advise looking at the ratings for temp and treadwear. The higher number on the treadwear - the harder the tire. It won't wear as fast but it doesn't ride as good either. It also doesn't grip as well.

I'd recommend an all season touring tire by Michelin with a moderate treadwear rating.

Toyo Proxes (NOT Proxies... why does everybody keep calling them proxies?) are a very good tire. Another very good tire is the Fuzion HRi. I have a set of them on my wife's car, and I'm not going to tell you they have fantastic grip and amazing wet performance, because they don't, but they are more than good enough for normal/spirited driving, and they can handle up to about 3-4 inches of snow with no problem. And they are so cheap.

I agree about General Exclaim UHPs. I ran them on both my cars and they were great. Can you get stickier tires? Yes. Can you get cheaper tires? Yes. Can you get a tire that meets both those categories? Not even close. The UHP is the stickiest tire you can get for under $150... I got my last set (225/55/16s) for $71 a tire. Brilliant!

H-rated is up to 130.

I don't think ANY Michelin a/s tires have a reasonable treadware rating. Until you get into the $200+ pilots, there are generally rocks. Well, the Exalto PE2 isn't bad (I had a set, NOT the a/s). They were good, but better tires can be had for far less money.

I just put a set of 215/55/zr16 Continental ExtremeContact DW's on my '92 mtx, they are a very responsive and quiet tire. I would definately recommend checking them out, they go for $114 on tirerack.

I run dunlop's. DZ 101's right now. I have been happy with them, but they are def. a summer tire. I agree with the suggestion of having summer tores and winter tires.
