Gross Vehicle Weight is listed at 3380 for 1989 models. Add 180lbs (you) to that and assume GVW is with 1/2 a tank. Still a little heavy...

Yeah, that's on the heavy side.

Even removing 300 #s for you and the gas, it seems to be about 200#s overweight.

Is it a moonroof car?

Heavy stereo gear?

Heavy wheels?

I don't see it in your sig, but does it have full-length subframe connectors?

Going from memory, but I recall '89s weighing in under 3,300 #s with gas and no driver.

My 89 stock (basketweaves, 10" brakes, etc) was 3270 wet (3160 dry). It was a stripper (manual pass seat, fixed ant., no sunroof, etc)

Sheesh 3750? I weighed my '93 AUTO with luggage in it, and a full set of knuckles and other parts in the trunk... thing was 3582.

Sound like the scales are simply reading a bit on the heavy side. There is no way a SHO would weigh that much.

hmm yea i bet they are. i mean its not a big deal just wondering if i could be possible. i mean i havent put like any lead in the back seat to make it that heavy over stock lol.
the scale is prolly off. i mean they weigh the trucks when they come in and weigh them when they go out to see how much they dropped off. its prolly not accurate on the gross weight just on how much they lost when the load was droped off?

No, those scales are accurate. just like the ones at grain elevators and at moving companies, they are certified and inspected by the state.

now, as i understand, they are also set to show weight levels. That scale could be set to read only at 50 # intervals. So it could be that your car weighs 3701 #s, but it will read 3750. Truck trailers don't need the weight down to a pound.

Anytime I have had a car weighed at a grain elevator or the local United Van Lines, the weight has always been rounded to 5 or 10, but I've never asked what the readout scale is.

I haven't seen weights on other '91s, might be worth checking.

FWIW, we saw this on Gen 3s. My '99 in drag trim (stuff removed, 4 gal gas, and me in the car) was 3608 #s. Even adding stuff back in, with a full tank, it would still be around 3,700 #s. Take my 206 #s (including helmet) out, and it's under 3,500 #s. OTOH, Kirk Doucette's '97 SHODOWN was something like 3790 #s with gas and no driver.

Maybe some cars got the extra-heavy soundproofing? ;)
