Hey everyone. I bought my first 93 SHO back in 1996. A beautiful car. White on tan, with white wheels. Such a fun car. Traded it in on a 1999 SHO. What a pleasure to drive. Had to sell it sue to job change and family requirements. Traded it in on a freakin minivan! Yes, that hurt!!! Recently, came across a hunter green 93, sitting in a garage, for 20 years. I bought it for $1k. Full tank of rotten fuel. How do clean all that out? Im already planning on replacing the tank, pump, filters all that. how do i clean out the rest of the system. Im not looking for this to be a daily driver or a race car. I want this to be my retirement cruiser. SHO's, especially the first two generations, are extremely under represented in the cruising, historic scene. I still have my original personalized plates, which are still available in Missouri. Help a brother out. How do i clean out this complicated fuel system/

Probably be a good idea to pull the fuel rails and have the injectors cleaned or just replaced. They will all more than likely be stuck open or closed at this point.

Easy way to drain all of the fuel is to jump the fuel pump test lead on the test connector. Either pull the supply line at the fuel rail or at the filter and just run the pump until you get everything out.

Drain a bunch and then drop it. I agree with jump and probably run it at the fuel filter. Less travel and figuring it will make a little of a mess because most things go this way, catch it without having fuel all over the engine compartment side.

I just realized I never updated on this thread. I tried syphoning fuel out. Come to find out it wasn’t a full tank. I cut the filler hose and ran the siphon and drained about 4 gallons of nasty fuel. I dropped the tank, blew out the lines, new tank, new pump and sending unit, new filter. Turned the key and the pump initialized. Tried to start it and it just cranked. Let the air out of the fuel line and tried again. Fired right up. Runs good. That gave me my ok to order parts. New struts, new brakes and rotors, new carpet. I’m at about $2500 in the car including the price of the car. I have the interior stripped out and in the process of cleaning rodent odor.

My next question, when I removed the console, evidently I pulled two thin gauge wires out and now it won’t shift out of park. I can’t see anywhere they might have been attached. I’m thinking they’re from the O/D on off button but can’t figure out how to remove the shifter handle. Any ideas?

On the front side of the shifter is a retaining pin that you need to remove/pry out. Once removed the shifter will slide up and off. If I remember correctly the OD button just pops out.

Thank you Chad, I did find that clip and removed it but the handle still didn’t come off maybe I put enough oomph in it. I’ll try again after work.
