Hi folks, im swapping a 14 engine into my 11. My 11 engine didn't have this yellow looking cap under the radiator hose connection in the pic. It has a factory looking retainer clip. Anyone know what this is?C0e727cca7c80eb7777b6bb4461abe55

Stumped LOL. Other than a coolant inlet pipe, ...

I can tell what I do know:
  • Non police interceptor version
  • Pre-TSB production where the valve cover is redesigned to a composite type and pcv valve/separator are replaced as part of that TSB.
AA5Z-6582-E Valve Cover
TAURUS; W/ TURBO; RIGHT
$185.80 $128.20
AA5Z-6A785-F Separator
3.5 LITER W/ TURBO, TO 11/ 02/ 2014
$87.57 $60.42
AA5Z-6A666-D PCV Valve
3.5 LITER W/ TURBO, TO 11/ 02/ 2014
$7.69 $4.86

Lower plug hose with a yellow plig goes to the de-gas bottle.

You got an engine out of an explorer (I'm wrong about the exploder) looks like the later engine have a re-designed cooling system. I looled at an explorwr first since both can have an eco boost. Then i looks at 2016, then your 11. The 11 and 16 had different cooling system routings.

Start swapping parts from your original engine. (This still applies)

So do you think I need to remove this line or can i just leave it capped? Not sure I understand what your saying. I suppose if it's part of the cooling system it will need to be plugged or re routed.

Thanks

I'm sorry. It was late and I was tired after a long day driving. I read it and my post doesn't make sense.

Originally I thought you got an engine from an explorer and why it was different. Then i was looking at the 3.5L e.b. I noticed the 16 Taurus and explorer had the same cooling routing. (I have a 16 and why i gravitated to it) That's when I looked to a 2011 and saw the cooling system routing was different.

That line goes to the coolant inlet pipe (the big red cap)? If it does, you'll have to swap over your old pipe from your original engine. If you don't your going to fill the engine and have a huge coolant leak. If you cap it off, i dont know what kind of problems you may have. You may have none, or another posible leak point down the raod.

I pulled the intake and it is an extension of the crossover pipe that comes out of the water pump. It has a factory cap with an oring type seal and a metal retention clip. It looked like it has been capped since new. I'm assuming it's for cooling an option on certain builds. I'm going to run it. Looks like a solid sealing method from the factory. I didn't want to pull the fuel rail and injectors to remove it..

That picture made the yellow cap look like a cap the yard used. I would agree with you knowing the cap appears factory and has a o-ring seal, Let her buck with the cap. Sorry about the wasted gaskets.

On other units that hose goes to the degass bottle.

I know what I have now so it's not wasted time. I like to check all the boxes. I used to work on airplanes and helicopters so I'm kind of ocd like that:)

Well the mystery pipe was leaking coolant at the welded joint from the little stub with the cap. Pulled the intake and replaced the crossover pipe with my old one. I replaced all the intake and coolant seals this time. Runs good so far, no leaks. That crossover pipe is a pain to change with the engine in the car. I did reuse the lower teflon fuel injector seals.2a97e320b413e6a3adbe6afc4025c5a5
