What is this that I broke?

I was removing the air intake system today, and while disconnecting the hoses from the rubber ribbed tubing that connects to the throttle body, a plastic "T" broke. It is on top of the engine. It connects a hose to the above tubing near the air intake temp. sensor. Where do I get a replacement plastic "T"? Is it a universal part?

It sounds like the pcv system. When mine broke, I got a replacement one that was made of brass from the local hardware store. Was about $3. Any old T will work, just make sure you get the right size!

Edit: if its a vacuum line you're talking about, you can use the T's for windshield washer fluid hose. I'd say the fitting is universal either way

I run a closed PCV system with my condensation can. This builds vacuum in the crankcase. This helps the rings seal better. But at WOT the vacuum disappears of course.

The con can has a spring loaded/vacuum closed drain. So when there is not vacuum the con can drains.

the part I broke is a breather tube, right? Its not the pcv...

OH sorry, back to on topic.

The part you broke is for the fresh air intake part of the PCV system. This is where metered air goes into the valve covers (usually) and is exhausted through the PCV valve along with the blowby gas into the surge tank. Some times when blowby is greatest the gasses may back up, reverse flow and enter the intake tube, then into the throttle body from this tube.

But this is at WOT and if you have excessive blowby. A pretty good indicator for the condition of your engine is if there is very little oil pulled in from this tube into the TB, then the rings are sealing well.

Unfortunately the PCV valve is exhausted into the intake right next to the hottest part at the EGR port. So when you have some of your highest vacuum, cruising speeds, you are also blowing this water and light hydrocarbon mixture onto a very hot object. This is why the carboning up is so bad at this point.

Some people also attribute this to the exhaust laden material going through the EGR valve. :corn:

I used to have both the valve covers and the PCV valve run into my catch can. I now only have the PCV valve go into the catch can. The noise from running the crank under vacuum is a little too annoying for me for any duration.

you guys said that you can just replace that T but i dont see how. i broke mine the other day and when i tried to pull it out of the vacuum hose it does not come out it seems to all be one piece?

how big of a deal is it if this doesn't get fixed? NOBODY around here has the part. I did find a brass T with threads at the hardware store... Any real bad problems to arise if its not fixed?
