Well it WAS my ECT. If people are having similar hot running temps and you've replaced the ECT already, don't rule it out!
FYI to an autozone ECT purchase: If the pimply geek behind the counter brings back a $10 plastic sensor. Politely tell him to bend over and shove it up his cuss ! Buy the $16 metal one, it's metal like OEM. The plastic one worked great for about a month. Lesson learned.
may i ask what brand both of them were??
wells vs GP Sorenson maybe??

plastic vs metal isn't the problem, i'd venture to guess it was the quality of craftsmanship of the unit.... in equal settings i'd take the plastic one over the metal one anyday...

also, not everyone standing behind a parts counter is a "pimply geek" there are a few that actually know what they are doing and can help you in your search for a solution to a problem.

the pimply geek you speak of, however, is more or less the result of autozone (like some others) being more of a retail outlet than an auto parts store... at least what auto parts store means to me... i mean seriously... what kind of auto parts store sells kingsford charcoal???? the autozone here does jpshakeh

yes its funny, but it works like this.... you can't walk into wal-mart's electronics section and expect an electrical engineer to help you with your selection..... its just not gonna happen, you are paying bottom of the barrel for it, and so wal-mart can afford to sell it to you for that they will hire someone with no intelligence in that field because they can pay them nothing.

Simlarly you can't walk into an autoparts store that buys and sells some of the cheapest quality parts that money can buy (because we the consumers demand it that way) and expect the guy behind the counter to be an expert... guess what..he gets paid $6 an hour and most likely and doesn't really care that your taurus can run 14's...

Autozone does carry some quality stuff, mobil one, performance friction, and perfect circle are a few brands off the top of my head, but wells electrical, albany brake parts, and some others are just bottom of the barrel...cheapest in price because they are cheapest in construction... this does NOT mean you have to buy OE parts to get good stuff... it DOES mean that if you walk into a "retail outlet" like that you must do so with some information regarding what you are buying ... and don't expect the guy they hired for minimum wage and threw in a uniform to tell you all about why you want to use plastigauge while assembling an engine, or why you should not buy a fram filter, or why you should do anything... he is there to take your money

If you want to talk to someone who may have insight and SOME experience with what he sells, walk into a true parts store (one that doesn't sell Kodak Fun Saver cameras and a full line of candy bars) and ask someone...

There are some guys that work at these big chain stores that DO know what they are talking about, but they are few and far between...

And when I find them, they are like gold. Back when I lived in San Diego ans had my 1990 Camry there was this one parts guy at the Toyota dealership who was really on top of his game. Never found a parts guy even close up here between the Salinas, Monterey, and Gilroy Toyota dealerships.
