welcome

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Running rich is usually caused by bad oxygen sensors.

Checking your codes , you can find the how to on www.shotimes.com under maintenance along with most everything you need to know about your car.

Welcome to the forum! :)

"Running rich" refers to more gasoline in the air/fuel mixture than is necessary or "normal" (the technical term is stoichiometry) for optimum engine operation. "Running lean" refers to the opposite, which is too much air and too little gasoline in the air/fuel mixture. As you probably know, fuel from the injectors and air from the intake are mixed when entering the combustion chamber, and both are required for complete combustion.

Rich running usually results in poor fuel economy, higher emissions, increased carbon deposits inside the engine, potential damage to the catalytic converters and telltale black soot on your tailpipes. Running lean usually results in higher engine temps, occasional knocking (detonation and/or pre-ignition), and long-term can lead to engine damage.

This is far from a complete explanation of either condition, but should be a good starting point. Are you having issues which are making you suspect a rich condition?
