Well,
A couple of days ago, I was just going around town a bit, when I noticed that the car wouldn't go into overdrive. I figured that this was NOT GOOD, so I called my buddy Jonathan in Dallas who recently had his own atx woes, and asked him how many miles I had before the entire thing went, and he said I had about 400 miles. So I got up at 4 in the morning and slowly drove from Midland, Tx to Dallas (about 350 miles) in order to take it to a reputable tranny shop there that he used. He lent me his sho (which has multiple problems) but at least it was wheels. My problem is this.. I am trying desperately to find a 94 or 95 core for them to rebuild since the 93's were notoriously weak. Is it that big of a deal? Have any of you other guys had your 93 cores rebuilt?? How have they held up?? I am going to install a trans-go kit while I'm at it, and Jonathan's tranny really shifts nice (he had one put in too) but he has a 95. Looks like about $1600 to do the fix...OUCH!! Well it is the original tranny.....

Jeremy, I told you this yesterday at lunch. Agreed, Jonathan's SHO has problems but be a little more gracious! How many other guys do you know that would let you borrow their SHO for 2-3 weeks at NO COST?! Case in point, loaning one's SHO out to a guy who lives 325 miles away seems to be a nice gesture.

All I'm saying is that Jonathan was nice enough to let you borrow the car. At least be gracious enough not to constantly remind him or bash his car about the problems. He knows about the problems and they do wear on his conscience. Hearing the problems from some smart-mouthed pr*ck doesn't help the situation!

If your car crapped out on you and a guy you've met ONCE lent you his car for a few weeks, would you b*tch about it's problems?

Jeremy and I are the best of friends, but I've got to keep him realistic.

If any one came off sounding like a "smart-mouthed pr*ck" it was probably you.

You don't know the entire situation. Jeremy and I always joke around in this manner. It's nothing serious until some dude interjects his opinion, SLOSHO. Feel free to post anyway.

So my question is are the 94-5 auto transmissions really "stronger" than the earlier ones. Mine is a 94 and it is on it's second tranny with only 65K on it

Well I had the original rebuilt, just make sure they look over everything. The place I brought mine to seemed to not upgrade a few things and they broke but were replaced for free with upgrades. They were even nice enough to throw in a shiftkit. It shifts nicely now. I strongly recomend the shift kit, no more slop.

According to our local transmission shop the 93 ATX's were notoriously weak and much more prone to failure than the 94-95's. I believe Doug Lewis rebuilds all of his ATX's with 94-95 cores. You know that old saying about never buying the first model year of any car? Being Ford's (Mazda's) attempt at such a transmission, it may have well been weaker. Just a theory....

UPDATE... well "the transmission shop" over in Garland TX did some reasearch, and found out which parts were "improved" in the 94-95 by contacting ford themselves. So I basically will have a brand new tranny with trans-go, and redline for under $1700. Labor and everyting.... not bad including rear main seal and front motor mount...
