Welding Cams?

I've read several items on here that speak of welding the cams? What is this and should I have it done if I don't have a problem in my 98? I've also read (SHODWN) that TIG welding(?) is the way to go and not MIG. Can anyone provide some info.

98-99K on the clock and still going.

I will inspect them at 100K to 110K, but other than that I probally won't weld or pin, at this time.
