Hello everyone,
I have been wandering what the open wiring harness under my driver's seat was used for, and I finally figured it out. It is the autolock harness. For ATX SHOs, this harness allows the doors to automatically be locked when the car is taken out of reverse or out of first gear when weight is sensed on the seat. For some reason, MTX SHOs come with the harness disconnected. To make it work is easy though. Just take about 4 inches of standard electrical wire and attach a male end connector on both sides of the wire. Then plug the male connectors into the plug, which closes the circuit, and your done. The only thing left to do is to turn "Autolock" on. To do this, enter your keyless entry code into the panel and within 5 seconds of that press and release the 3/4 key while holding the 7/8 key down. Then enjoy automatic locking for your SHO. I believe this only works if your SHO came with keyless entry, and it may only work on Gen II's. If your battery is disconnected or voltage falls below 11 volts, you'll have to re-activate the "Autolock" feature through the keyless entry pad. Enjoy!

I kind of just experimented with it, as my local Ford dealer parts guy told me what the harness is for. I figured you'd have to close the circuit to make it work, and the owner's manual with the SHOs talks about how to turn the autolock feature on throught the keypad, and the rest is history. I am pretty sure that a junkyard SHO's keyless entry system is transferable to another non-keyless SHO if you also get the computer.

Yea they are transferable but i lack the time to do such a thing. Oh well, i will just continue to use my keypad instead.

Not to mention the 4 SHOs that are within 50 miles of my house are all picked to the bone... Only thing left are cig butts on the floorboard and a few spiders that have made homes in the ash tray. :frown:

I did this mod about 2 years ago. Only thing is, you have to hit reverse (just like it is activated in the auto...you pass reverse and it locks) in your MTX once started (every time you start it) for it to activate and autolock the doors. :thumb:

I am not sure, but I would guess no. I have an MTX, and I haven't yet seen the doors automatically unlock at any time since I closed the circuit for the jumper, but I guess it could be possible for an ATX. I tried to search the forum for the answer to your question about auto unlocking, and I couldn't find anything though......

The ATX will not auto unlock (to my knowledge)...but it will not re-lock the doors if the driver gets out of the car (even if they close the door). When they return, and get in and close the door, they will lock again. There is a weight sensor in the drivers seat I believe. (This is how my 94 taurus LX worked...it had all options...keyless entry, leather etc.)

Correct, in my MTX, the doors will automatically lock after shifting out of reverse, after shutting any door while the SHO is still started, and for some reason after turning off the interior lights using the dimmer. Just make sure to tell your passenger to watch their arms when shifting out of reverse, as mine have had tendencies to put their elbows up on the side door panel (where the door locks). OUCH! :bonk:

I wouldn't worry about auto unlock (unless your in the backseat) Cool thing about Fords, the front doors unlock when you pull on the inside handle.

I don't think it has anything to do with being lazy, this way you don't even have to think about locking the doors, adding another feature to our MTX's.

My dad does this and i've srateted doing it too, put the car in reverse before I shut it off. But then agin I still have the Sh***y cable linkage, sometimes gettiing it in to reverse is tricky. :nut:

My MTX locks about 60 seconds after you shut the door. It does not matter if your in it or not or if It's running or not. The system has the keyless pad on the drivers door so I suppose it came from the dealer that way. Sometimes the auto lock can be a real pain in the ass because it locks you out all the time.

I think my car is really an oddball... I mentioned this briefly in my introduction post, but upon finding this thread I figure I'll see what you guys have to say about it...

I have a 1994 MTX with factory alarm, but no keyless entry. That is, no keypad above the door handle. But, I have a remote lock/unlock key fob, which also arms/disarms the alarm.

Now, let's say I get in the car and close the door. I put the key in, and as soon as I turn the key to the on position on my way to the start position, the doors lock. Has nothing to do with whether I left the car in gear, in neutral, whatever. Doors lock before engine even starts. Anyone else have this?

--Edit--
Another peculiarity with my car (well, maybe all Ford factory alarm systems are like this, but I've never had a car do this before)... my alarm automatically arms itself after a few minutes, whether doors are locked or unlocked. I can use my key fob to unlock the car, and if I spend any more than a minute loading luggage or whatever, by the time I'm in the car with the key in the ignition, my ignition disabler has activated and I have to hit the remote unlock button while inside the car, or else it won't start. I guess this is very safe, but it is kinda crappy, since the alarm makes the really loud and pretentious chirp any time I hit a button.

My MTX does that everytime I get out of reverse. The door lock also relock themselves when a door is closed. I think it can help. Especialy if a stealer wants to take you out of the car.
