vss,o/d off

hello.I have my 1999 sho.I was working on making a trip to see about getting my cams welded.Before I blink a eye,my o/d off light is flashing constantly.The car is shifting very strangely,with the rpm gauge acting strange also.After some research,I figure I have nothing to lose by changing the vehicle speed sensor.I went and bought one at auto store.part number su1019.I have my car on jack stands,and now I'm trying to figure out where it goes.I read alot of posts for earlier years,but I need to know where the vss is on a 99 tranny.pictures would be very helpful if possible.The check engine light is not on,or never came on.I am just taking a shot in the dark right now.It's not very expensive,just some labor.Any directions would be great.Thanks

well if your light is flashing ther is a code to tell you your trans is toast

most the time flashing OD light is toasted trans.. but you can get it scaned and it will tell you...

The GEN 3 SHO does not have a VSS. This comes from the Anti Lock brakes computer.

If the O/D light is flashing but the check engine light isn't then it's probably over heated fluid.

Could be a bad TRS though as things get flacky when they go bad. You can test this with an ohm meter.

this one looks like one i have on the drivers side right above the half shaft.You can see it mostly with the tire off.You can see it from above ,but no access from atop..My tranny says ax4n. Is this the vss that I need.Thank you .

99's don't have that sensor - Vehicle speed and everyhting on a 99 comes from the ABS. 96's have that sensor it is where the cruise control gets speed from. By 99 that was all converted to ABS.
