Valve cleaning...

Hey! Decided to clean my valves, see attached photo. I'm guessing this killed atleast 30-40 hp, but how often should these be cleaned.

Wow! How many miles is on your engine? And what process did you use to clean them?

That right there is the exact reason why you should have a CC on any early model EB.

Interested as well. I had some kind of super-duper special GDI oil change service performed at the dealership on my SHO (2016 nonpp 30k) and I noticed for a few days afterwards the BOV's were puking up nasty funk. Wondered if it's possible it was cleaning out stuff like this.

Agreed, what year SHO, how many miles, and what kind of oil you're using would be great information to share. That's a whole new level of nasty. Thanks for sharing the pics.

Yup, and that caused a rough idle and I was a Service Manger for BMW of NA at that time (10 years) and had all kinds of customer complaints. BMW came up with a fix by blasting the valves with walnut shells. Worked great! The modern gasolines are suppose to have an additive to prevent that problem ????

DI skips the valve exposure to the fuel, so they are adding port injectors in addition to direct injection to clean those things. The fuels have had detergents in there for a long time.

Yep the detergents just do nothing to help us since the fuek is spraying directly into the chamber and not the backside of the valve.

The 3.5TT is a 10+ year old engine at this point... much like our beloved 4th/5th gen SHO...

Technically the Taurus 3.5 is 10year old tech but the f150 3.5 was refreshed in 2015 and again in 2017.

True, I wasn’t thinking about the truck 3.5... just the forgotten transverse 3.5TT...

Idk man, your SHO was kind of like my blueprint when I first got mine. I closely followed Jordan's push for lower times but I wasn't a fan of weight reduction.

Honestly I miss some of the things about mine....my desire to mod was high, but my willingness to pioneer or spend double the value wasn't feasible with my mod budget.

Thank you for the kind words! I have made sure that everything on my SHO was best of breed and thus reliable. I envisioned it if Ford’s performance arm had taken the time to do a special edition. Only place I am stumped is the brakes lol..

And I would love to see what it’s putting down with the AO tune...

I ran the EBC rotors and brake pads on mine and it was almost too much. I really wish ford had made the SHO part of the ST lineup.

You did great at making it what it should have been without going too far and hacking it up.
