Sounds to me like you have a bum VSS. Mine would do the same thing. Start there first.
Would the vss through a code? Because there is no codes stored on there!
The VSS has recently become the latest popular quick-fix suggestion for tranny problems. Unfortunately, a bad VSS is only the source of a tiny percentage of tranny problems.
In any case, it really isn't your responsibility at this point to diagnose the reason(s) your tranny isn't operating properly -- it's the people who did it for you (or
to you, as seems the case here).
When you went back, did you demand satisfaction and threaten to sue? If you're not going to force these people to remedy your problems, there's really not a whole lot else anyone here can offer you.
Here are your current options as I see them:
1. Take whatever legal (or consumer protection as Bizzy suggested) actions necessary to force these people to fix the tranny, or refund your $$$.
2. Take the tranny elsewhere to get it properly repaired, then sue the first shop for the additional expenses, rental car, etc.
3. Rebuild the tranny yourself, or get a junkyard/used tranny installed.
4. Sell the car with the disclosed tranny troubles and start over with another car.
