Ugh.. what is this?

Noticed this swinging back and forth tonight as my mom pulled her 98 SHO into the garage.

Thought it was an exhaust hanger at first, but its not.

It was bolted (at one time) right above the muffler directly behind the rear bumper. Other side as has the same thing (but still firmly attached.)

What is it?

My 97 has them as well, granted they aren't nearly that rusty! Looking under the car those appeared to me to be the preferred jacking spot if you need to change your rear tire. I could not find a spot close to the tire that seemed save to jack on. I used it to jack the rear up just high enough to swap wheels - 1 side at a time. I envision them also being useful if I need to drag the car out of the ditch. :)

That's the hold down that transport trucks use to keep cars from moving around during transport. They are supposed to take them off during Pre Delivery Inspection:swing:
