Well, today I installed my UDP's and checked my timing belt while I was there for slck. I had been hearing a plastic sounding knock at idle so I was hoping that was the issue. When I removed my timing cover I noticed that I had no rubbing marks at all on the cover from the timing belt, BUT, My belt DID have a lot of slack in it. I readjusted the timing per SDPATT's procedure, cleaned up the cover, reinstalled that and my mothers polished UDP's(hehe). This project from driving in the garage to driving out took 3hrs. Its too abd that the battery tray is the worst part to remove especially for this NE car.
Anyways...eventhough my timing belt was not hitting the cover, my knocking sound is now gone. Kinda makes me wonder. O'well, anyways tomorrow night I will be starting my valve adj on my SHO and willfinish it up on Saturday morning. Good luck to me.

PS...One thing I did notice with my crossover tube off was little pools of oil in the main intake tubes.....Your thoughts on this please? Is that my PCV system that is doing this? Anything to look at?
Thanks in advance.....

The timing belt re-tensioning procedure for the MTX could allow us to get 100,000 miles from a timing belt if done regularly, say every 5,000 or 10,000 miles. You probably recovered a few horsepower from the timing tune-up, but it makes mw think the belt has been in there long enough to need replacement if it was that loose.

Yes, the oil in the intake gets there through the crankcase ventilation system. There is no other path for anything but air to get into the intake of an MTX. (The ATX has exhaust gas recirculation.)

You want scored timing belt covers? :)

http://www.picturetrail.com/gallery/view?username=jcostantino click on the SHO album and look.

The dealership I bought my SHO from 4 years ago somehow forgot to put the saucer shaped washer back on that keeps the timing belt from moving on the crank pulley. I happened to see this when I replaced the crank sensor. Needless to say, the washer is hard to find and I ended up getting it from a Shotimes list member.

And yes, I did change the timing belt after that :)

Well, It was replaced about 30,000 or so miles ago, but my trust in that mechanic was not that great. So I'm assuming he did not tighten it enough. AFter that I started doing my own work. I'm too picky to have a mechanic do it. Anyways, the timing belt had about 3/4inch of slack between the 2 cam pullies. It does run better now...seems to anyways, could just be my butt dyno. It definately starts better.
I started my valve adj tonite. Its going pretty smoothly. I got the fron bank done and clean my intake. Tomorrow morning I will tackle the rear bank and hope its as smooth. I did take some pictures and I'll tell you what, Mobil-1 tri-synthetic keep that top end clean. I'll try to get all the pictures posted on Sunday. On the front bank I only had 2 intake valves within spec all the rest had to be sized up. 4 were 1 thousands out of spec.
Anyways, before I write a book I'l stop!! eek!
