I just replaced my alternator today with an OCA brand model. It's supposed to have all new parts and a new casting. The previous one died, it wasn't putting out any voltage.
The new one works great (14.2 volts). The promblem I have is... At about 3700 rpms I start to get a turbo like whine from the alternator area. It gets pretty loud at 5-6K rpm and I also get a slight vibration. Other threads have mentioned it could be the alternator bearing or the bearing breaking in. I'm wondering if I got an alternator with a bad bearing right out of the box.
What's the method of failure for the alternator bearing? Will it sieze? Snap the belt? Or just overheat the alternator and cause premature failure?
It has a lifetime warranty.
Recommendations?
Thanks
