I just replaced my alternator today with an OCA brand model. It's supposed to have all new parts and a new casting. The previous one died, it wasn't putting out any voltage.

The new one works great (14.2 volts). The promblem I have is... At about 3700 rpms I start to get a turbo like whine from the alternator area. It gets pretty loud at 5-6K rpm and I also get a slight vibration. Other threads have mentioned it could be the alternator bearing or the bearing breaking in. I'm wondering if I got an alternator with a bad bearing right out of the box.

What's the method of failure for the alternator bearing? Will it sieze? Snap the belt? Or just overheat the alternator and cause premature failure?

It has a lifetime warranty.
Recommendations?
Thanks

i have seen alts iwth bad bearings lock up and throw the belt before but that probably wont happen it will more than likely just over heat and u know heat kills anything electricle...
but i wouldnt worry about it... if yer scaed about it dieing.... try to spray some mobile one full synth at the bearings and u will never have to worry about it again for a very very long time.... the problem is getting the oil to the bearings :p but if u can figure that out then u will be all good... no need to replace a new alt just cuz its noisy... just try to **** it up with some synthetic oil and ull be fine.

im all for saveing money :p if it aint broke dont fix it.
