that set up looks great. You should think about selling it. It seems you guys have thought about everything.

yes he did. lets see if i can describe teh sound... vroooOOOOMMMMM BOV VROM BOV.

we took it for a little spin last night. we inputed the lincon maf (which is temporary because my lightning didn't arrive yet) pulled out 6-8 deg of timming and set the global injecter size for 52lbs (it pegged my wideband at 10:1 so. I started to boost it once before we made to correction for the 47.7lb injecters and it started to spool hit 2psi then started sputtering. it was just to fricking rich pumping black smoke better than brning plasitic bags.

but holly god is that turbo loud... i love it. the thing takes like 15-20 seconds to stop spinning when i turn it off.

we still have a lot of work to do though. back to it i go :) a HUGE thanks to HRK for busting his ass like he has been

you should not need to pull timing with 93-94 octane gas, you'll lose that sweet tip-in throttle response!! awesome job getting it running!!!

we might have to have a Turbo ATX race, once yours is all worked out. maybe at the next convention.

You forget the turbo is loud because its open dump right now :p Not saying it won't be loud with an exhaust, but it will be noticebly quieter. I can't wait to see thissssssssss. :D

Your wheel doesn't hit that piping at full lock?

no, we have over an inch of clearance there, even more is possible too

what alex was refering to is the fact that you can hear the compressor side of the turbo over the exhaust note.... sounds like a jet engine @ full boost

throttle response is unimportant right now, making sure it makes it to the dyno is our main concern. throttle response still feels quite good tho. im very happy that we pulled timing ... see the "torn hose" section of todays events below

weve thought of alot, there are a few things left top sort out b4 i would even consider doing a second car, and i DOUBT that i would ever build a kit, there are very tight clearances EVERYWHERE, previous frame damage or variations in tire sixe would easily make it impossible to install. plus it this setup requires modifications to the subframe

ok ... so heres the rundown on the first full day:

started off by setting the fuel pressure, took care of a small oil leak, swapped in the good plugs, checked for any visable problems, charged the battery, checked the oils, and a few other small things

after we felt safe w/ the setup, i got on the laptop and made some adjustments, and we did a few small pulls to make sure everything was in check

the first pull was part throttle and we saw 5 or 6 psi, but after Alex backed off the gas we got a few big backfires and the car ran like shit for a while, turns out we popped a pipped a pipe off, easy fix

a little later we got on it harder, and the boost spiked FAAAR beyond what we want .... 5psi is the target, the car spooled to 15 in a heartbeat .... but it pulled like a freight train and was still pig rich (11.2). no detonation, no sputters, just rock solid acceleration (14-16psi = well over 400 to the wheels )

after we pulled into the driveway i realized that there was a good size rip in the wastegate line. donno when or how it happened, but it easily could have happened at any point today or yesterday, after a quike fix we went back out to try it. turns out that we have 3 - 3.5 psi @ the manifold on a .4 bar wastegate spring. we got a short vid of us pulling down the 400 @ 3/4 throttle

then it was time to hit duffs for their car show. on the way down there was a newer tercel (i think) and the guys GF was staring at the SHO ... could see that she knew what the silver radiator and whistle were. she said something to her bf who was driving and he got all ****** off, and tried to pull ahead of us, so alex hammered on it, passed him, then backed off and blew off next to them. he did that a few times and eventualy he yelled "nobody cares" and tried to speed away again.

at duffs the car drew TONS of looks and ALOT of people came over to ask questions. alex and i were fielding questions for at least 2 hours, alex kept getting compliments on the work, and i kept getting compliments on the car in general .... we had to keep telling people "he owns the car, i just put it together" and vise versa

after that we hit up Mighty , hung out for a while, hit the airport tunnel for 2 passes, and headed home down transit

transit and genesee st, theres a 98 ****** on our left, and they are looking at the car like it ain't shit. passenger tells the driver "my buddy had a *inaudible* and it blew a SHO away"

hrmmm.... really ? light goes green, we start off light throttle in first gear, get it to about 3500 rpm and then alex just romps on it till 80mph, then backs off it and coasts back down to pace them.... blank stares from both of them, till they try to pass us .... haha yea right ....

the tried 4 or 5 times, and they just couldn't manage to get ahead ... wonder why ????

at one point i saw a hand signal inside the car, but didn't see WHAT it was ... turns out that it was the middle finger from the passenger ... he doesnt like us kinda ironic that he picked THIS SHO to talk about how slow they are ... they eventuly turned left at broadway & transit without ever laughing, smiling, or making direct eye contact

so that was our day, nothing realy exciting, but it was definantly nice to get out and feel that all our work was worth it

no dynotune yet, but 15psi from a 67mm turbo should be something like 450 hp to the wheels on a proper tune

I'd add a flexible section to either the WG feed pipe or the exhaust pipe, lots of expansion in that particular piece of pipe.

if you guys want a 17 PSI wg spring, i'll send it to you! i'm looking for a 6-9 PSI spring, to get rid of the MBC.

The TIAL WG usually comes with springs rangin from 5 to 15 psi in 5 psi incriments. I would use a 5 psi base spring and use a manual boost controller form there. Just mount it in a tough to get at spot so it is not as temptin to change. Boost is adicting.

Glad to see you got her running. Looks like a fun project. I wonder if that set up would work on a Gen III

i'm not going to run a boost controller, i'm going to get a 10lb spring though because after fealing 15 (which was closer to 16-17) 2.5-3 just seems slow.

I must comment on the over boost situation. I was in second at about 45mph and started to tip in to the throttle and I hit about 3/4 throttle and it was just starting to break traction at 70mph when nick started yealling STOP STOP STOP I was watching the wideband he was watching the boost gauge, that could have been really bad!!! that situation was on out way back from innovative tunning where i bought NGJ copper plugs (in stock don't know how that happened)

honestly the gen 3 is simaliar enough that a similiar setup may work. I did have to loose my washer botle for now. since you guys havent seen pics of the setup we were driving on. we are rocking no bumper with a masive air filter on the end of the turbo. and those guys in the secourt serously made my day. oh those are slow woooosh BOV *shocked*
