Everyone on Facebook is all about Gearhead or Ortiz. And yet I don't hear a lot about them here on shoforums.com

It's either LMS or Unleashed, and maybe one or two others.

Being a moderator, and now an admin at the ford-trucks.com website, and being a Ford 6.8L V10 owner for 17 years, I used 5-star for the V10, because they sponsor our V10 and 6.2L forum, AND their customer service has always been great for all our members.

I'm considering going with 5-star again for the 2018 SHO, they (Mike Butler) recommended Ngauge over SCT, and he says they have done many SHOs, and own a few themselves so they know what they're doing.

Thoughts? Why is Facebook a "vast wasteland" when it comes to this stuff? Are they all shills? ;)

Gearhead is great but then again I'm personally biased since I put my heart and soul into these things as well as daily drive them as well as having one of the highest hp stock block ones on record that gets beat on daily....D48e3ecf4e7dcf3b1c7664c8ca1cb00c

I have been tuned by LMS, Unleashed, BCB, AJPTurbo, and Gearhead...

Dig around the forums some... you will see reviews on all the above....

The forums move slower and tend to have more organized information. A lot of the guys here have been in the SHO world for a long time, seen lots of start up tuners come and go. So they tend to stick with the ones that have been around longer. Also Unleashed and LMS are very active on the forums. Gearhead is getting more involved which is great and Ortiz has like one post.

The Facebook group runs almost purely on emotion and the “next great thing” mentality.. so you see a lot more trying of new and different stuff.

The forums and Facebook are very different animals.

Personally I am Gearhead tuned and not looking to change... and I have worked with the majority of tuners... no one is innovating at the pace of Gearhead or pushing the platform further. A couple years ago it was unheard of to push close to 500awhp without major modifications etc... now it’s not as unheard of with the new products and enhancements from GH.

Here is a video of my car...

I think forums in general are an older person's thing. Asking a question without doing any research at all is a younger person thing IMO, so you see a lot more "what tune is best?" questions on facebook than you do here.

If you already have an SCT device I would highly recommend spending a hundred bucks and getting a gearhead tune. I doubt you would go back once you experience it. I've used LMS, AJP and Unleashed. They each have their pros and cons. I have not found a negative yet with my gearhead tune. I would put AJP second, my car didn't shift as smooth with that tune as it does with the gearhead tune, but in all fairness I have not him tune my current car, and I did not have gearhead tune my previous car....but both cars shifted about the same with every tune other than gearhead.

If you are looking for info from facebook, I would take most of what you read with a grain of salt.

This is true sort of. You see the same questions here, but maybe it's easier to find the answers on a forum. Or maybe us older folk use the search function more readily.

Actually, I see posts here recently from a few of the FB guys...

The one troubling thing was I heard that you don't use "Sport" mode with a GH tune because it shifts badly (missing shifts, or something to that affect). I'd rather retain the Drive vs. Sport mode, because I don't want my wife to complain while we drive somewhere together ;)

Sport mode is set up more like track mode on the mustangs. Normal mode is set up somewhere between stock and sport and is just always in the right gear. You probably won't need sport mode anymore.

I started with LMS and after missed shifts and cold weather issues that have been a few threads about here regarding their V11 tune I decided to try GH. Matt's base tune for these cars will adjust for regular gas, shifts better than any tuned car I have owned and I have not have any issues so far in D or S. I use S much less than the LMS tune as the throttle response and shifts in D work much better in traffic than stock or LMS. Matt's tune does not lock out 6th gear in S like stock and LMS.

I know of 5Star as I owned a 5.4 3V Navigator and while I have nothing against them I think GH and a few others have more experience with the transverse 3.5EB.

Actually, that's one of the things I LOVE about the Sport mode - 5th gear on the highway. Let off, decelerate quicker without having to apply the brake. Sport mode seems to be one gear lower at any speed, generally.

The only time my SHOs were out of Sport mode was when the wife or some other passenger was in the car ;)

Yeah, Sport mode in my PP makes it a completely different car. Power and handling.

I was thinking of trying GH even though the performance is similar to LMS just to feel the better shifting everyone lauds. I don't think I want to give up S mode though. It's fun to drive in it.
