Ok, so it's more in-depth than a normal balancing of wheels and tires and only recommended when a problem is occurring that can't be identified? Not something normally done with an alignment either?

You can have it done anytime. Not all shops have the equipment to do it, and of course it costs more due to the labor involved. Yes it' not just a normal dynamic spin balance.

You can usually i.d. this with the proper tools.

This is not something that is normally packaged with an alignment.

Wheel alignment spot on

Road force balance also completed but did not fix my issue :( Technician noted on my order that they also heard noise and felt vibration in the front from 40 to 55 mph, so at least I'm not crazy. Firestone tech is thinking a wheel bearing. Off to the dealer next I guess.

I'm assuming wheel bearings are covered under powertrain?

IDK, I would think that's a normal wear and tear item. I certainly hope so for you. How many miles are on the beast now? The Escape topped out for powertrain at 50K.

38K on her. From what I see in the warranty info bearing and hub should be covered, I hope.

I had a bad passenger wheel bearing on my 2010 at 32K miles... presented similar issues. When I turned left it would be more pronounced aka loading up that bearing with weight.

It’s covered under the bumper to bumper but not power train.

That sucks about the powertrain. Worst case I have the extended CPO warranty so it should just be the $100 deductible. I'll find out Monday I guess.

Problem resolved  Learned something also. So if you feel a vibration or think you have a bad wheel bearing, 9 times out of 10 the bad bearing is opposite the side you feel it on. For me everything I felt was coming from the right. Had a bad left bearing and hub. All replaced under powertrain warranty !!

Yup! If your left bearing was out, it would be more noticeable when you are turning right. The weight shifts into the left side when turning right which loads that bearing and vice versa...

Another give away in front to rear is if you feel the vibration in the seat of the car it’s most likely the rear and if you feel it through the pedals or steering wheel it’s in the front.

Most streets will slightly lean right or left, most people rarely notice as they correct it without thinking... so if you were on a road that leaned left slightly, then the hum would be worse as you are correcting the wheel to the right thus loading up that left bearing...

Glad it’s resolved!

I usually replace mine with timken as they make most OEM wheel bearings and are top notch quality.
