I have been working on the car for a few weekends now. When I had the car up on jack stands with it running, I didn't find any leaks. Today I drove the car and after parking looked for leaks and saw a little fluid on the ground, checked and it was transmission fluid. Okay I drove the car a little bit later and started to smell the dreaded burning transmission fluid again and when I got home and parked it, there was smoke, again coming from behind the engine.
Anyone got any ideas as to where the transmission could be leaking from to get on the exhaust right there at the #2 cat????

The transmission pan gasket could be bad. Check all your hoses leading into and out the transmission. The gasket where the transmission mounts to the motor could be gone.

I would almost go with power steering instead

Yeah I thought about that as well. I want to put the car up on the jackstands again and have someone turn the wheels with it running while I am under the car looking for a leak. Hopefully I can do this tomorrow after work, if I have time.
