em, i see you have a 93, im assuming its ATX. we know the ATX trannys are pure crap (im amazed mine is still running). get a D4U1 computer, and a Ted Breaux LPM. if youre really worried take it to AAMCO, but that kind of thing is more or less normal for the 93 ATX i think. perhaps someone will disagree though. i also recommend getting some Lucas Transmission Treatment and pouring it in there. feel free to message me or post any questions about any of this, i see youre new to the forum. welcome wink

Yes, that's normal i've had this problem for about a year and 14,000 miles so far (95 ATX)
I heard the Ted B LPM really does improve this.

If you are talking about an ATX, and by kicking you mean shifting hard from 1st to 2nd, then I have a couple of questions. Does it do this at light throttle? Have you run the codes? How does it shift at heavy / full throttle?
If it does this at light throttle, and you have reset the computer, you might have a broken accumulator spring. If this is the case, the trans needs to be pulled.
My car would positively tear your head off it shifted so hard from 1st to 2nd. At heavy throttle, or if you held it in first manually and built up some RPM, it was fine. Had to replace a motor mount because of the hard shifting.
Good luck

I have the same problem. It kicks from first to second. If i accelerate lightly or back off right before the gear change its ok. The harder i accelerate the harder it kicks.
How is a reprogrammed LPM supost to fix this. DOes the LPM control gear changes? How much do they cost?

justforsho private messaged me and asked me where and LPM could be had, and i know that SHOBiz wants to know too. an LPM is a computer chip that attaches to the computer that controls the car (this is a big silver box located behind the glove compartment) you need to contact Ted Breaux, his forum name is TedB. i think the chip costs about $200, its only compatible with certain processors though (depends on the year i think) so ask him when you email him. he reprograms the shift points and i think he tells the computer to raise the fluid pressure in the transmission to keep the shifts firm. hes a real good guy, **** answer any questions you might have.

if you have the money i also recommend going to a valvoline or similiar place where they can remove all your transmission fluid and put in fresh (if this hasnt already been done) then i would say pour the Lucas treatment in with the new fluid.

now i recommended the Lucas transmission treatment. there is currently a post on this and a few people dont like the products. but *many* others have come back and said how well it worked for them, including myself, so if you want it you can get it at almost any chain autostore (pepboys, autozone, etc). i think it was $7 for one bottle, and i only used about half. hope this helps!

Bluto, maybe one day when its warm out again ill shoot up to where you are and take a look at it. i like driving, im only about 2 hours away from Binghamton, so you never know when you might get a private message from me :D
