went to shift into third 2day and went boom. It went into third made a weird noise not grinding just a weird noise. Now its stuck in 3rd so I'm done with SHO's now. My car is an 1989 taurus and its not worth spending the probably close to $1,500 its gonna cost to get the tranny rebuilt or to find an used one.

Are you sure its not a clutch?

My friend just got a tranny from a junk yard for $83.

Im not sure, though when my staps went out it was incredably dificuilt to change gears, bascially had to force it. I have destroyed a clutch to the point where it wont shift.

The SHO tranny is pretty strong, so it usually doesnt go unless you have a lot of power or are abusing it.

I should probably add this right after I went into third and it went boom I could wiggle the shifter all around like there were no gears at all i mean to left and right when it shouldn't be able to do that. Then I went into what I thought was 1st so it might be stuck in first for all I know it happened so fast I'm not sure

actually, I had that problem happen to me, I grabbed a pair of locking pliers onto the end of the white peice at the trans and twisted untill it moved a little bit, that allowed me to reattach it, and shift without it popping off, I'm doing a rod shift conversion soon enough here, once I rebuild my engine, but it's definitly alot easier than trying to find a used one

To convert it to a rod shifter you do not need to remove the tranny. Rod shifters ron about $150 for a complete unit. You will need to cut the hole for it in the floor and install the different exhaust resonator, everything else is bolt in.

Wow, that is a good mechanic. I'm sure there are plenty that would've told you you needed a tranny rebuild.

I know this guy pretty well he only charged me $60 to fix it and he even put my starter in for me which I didn't even ask for he just saw it on the passenger seat and did that for me. And if he told me it was the tranny itself I would have junked it or sold it for cheap
