I read somehwhere on here that there is a sho specific tranny filter. is there any info on what the original part# was or cross reference #? Also was curious what if there was the wrong filter installed could this be detrimental?

I don't believe there is a SHO specific filter. However there are two very similar filters used for the two different transmissions used in the Taurus/Mercury/Lincolns. They are generally identifiable by the color of the rubber bushing used to mate it with the transmission.

Green = AX4S/AXOD-E
Orange = AX4N/4F50N

Some say they are universal, but I cannot say, only that I use the orange seal on the SHO's. Its Its possible the openings are different sizes. To be sure look for ones that match the Ford part number in their description: F5DZ7A098AA

Paul Nimz spoke about that recently in another post.

It was said that there is also a difference in the lenght of the duct connecting to the trans. One will takes his oil deeper in the pan so oil going in will/could be cooler.
