We all know who the guys with the top ET's in the 1/4 mile are. Has anyone done any roll racing or 1/2 mile racing with their SHO? Who can claim the top speed for our SHO platform?

Watched this for a while the other night:

I'm kind of surprised at some of the higher HP cars that only attain 130-145 MPH in the 1/2 mile. I would think any tuned SHO would easily attain 135 MPH in a 1/2 mile. Obviously our SHO's are not the platform for this type of racing but looking at the results neither are the Hellcats, Camaros or even most Vettes really. I'm surprised how non-competitive they are really. And I'm surprised at all the large cars too. Nobody builds an RX-7 or W124 Mercedes for this type of racing for example? No, this type of racing looks like people that just have more money than they know what to do with. I.E. spend $80,000 on a Dodge Demon, drop $20,000-$40,000 into it and you're still not even close to being competitive. Spend 1/4 to 1/3 of that building a twin turbo Fox Body Mustang or 3-rotor RX7 and I think you'd do much better.

So what's the top speed you've had your SHO up to and what's the top speed you've ever been in any car?

I've only had my SHO up to around 115MPH on the freeway. I had my old '95 Z28 up to 153MPH.

Having been to the Indy (Marion) half mile event, the air strip has terrible grip. Most of those 600+ whp cars just spin halfway down the track. I was there a few years ago (2019) with the Calvo Motorsports (Viper) guys and the big power cars (1800 - 2500 whp) were relying on their traction control for the entire run and still ran 220+. Most stock or lightly modded Charger/Challengers, Vettes, Camaros and Mustangs were running 135 - 145 MPH.

There was a guy there with an EB SHO, who I believe is on this forum, or at least was and I believe he had just about every bolt on at the time (intake, full exhaust, meth and maybe a few other mods) and he was running high 120 - low 130's. I talked with him for a minute when we were both getting fuel as I only purchased my SHO a few months before the event. The AWD cars were pulling bus lengths on the higher HP cars until around 2/3 down the strip before the faster cars would pull even or fly by.

As for top speed, a tuned SHO should be able to run 155 - 160 easily, I would guess a stock turbo car could run about 170 - 175 before the aero drag would just be too much. I've had my car to 160 (GPS verified) a few times and it was surprisingly stable at those speeds. That said, fastest I have ever driven a car is 182 MPH in my 99 Z28 with the T-tops out. I ended up caving in the front grill thing and broke a few of the tabs on it. The car felt like the front tires were a foot off the ground.

Cool perspective. I didn't realize they were having so much trouble with traction, things make more sense now. Street racing, drag racing, roll racing and 1/2 mile racing the GT-R's sure seem to do very well no matter what.

182mph at bonneville. Im going back after my tune is done with new turbos and aero upgrades. Its a heavy car but im shooting to have it down to 3600lbs without me in it. There is still salt falling out of my car and stuck in my carpet. My goal isnt to set records, i really dont care for that. I just want to see it hit 200mph but there is alot of drag to overcome

@yaycandy Do you have any idea what the coefficient of drag is on a Gen 4? My guess is around 0.34. Also, any need to replace the drive shafts or anything when attempting 200 MPH in a SHO?

I have another driveshaft i want to have sent out for carbon fiber copy. Ill have to get the drag coefficient data off my computer at work when i get in

That is so cool, I want to go do that too, not to set any records just to see what it could do in a long straight line.

Did you hit 182mph on the 3 mile course that you get your "license" on or a longer stretch?

I was not on the well kept speed course. I didnt need a license. You show up and can drive anywhere. Plenty of videos of people testing their hellcats there. I want to go back this year but the salt condition might not be best.

Doing new turbos because i need to, our hp cant overcome the drag and force at those speeds. Its mostly aero. Hp helps get to 150 but past that its weight and earth forces. Would need alot of hp to overcome the drag and being awd dont help.
Im sure someone will beat me to 200mph but its a lifegoal of mine to make a car that cant, can

Mine ran 157 at the top for a sustained almost 3 mile distance. Full pull from 75 to the terminal velocity. This was on a long stretch on the I 10 very early in the morning and was verified by GPS.

That was before Downpipes, Custom Exhaust, HPFP, and some other goodies. I would hope after all of that it would run 160+.

139 mph on I-69 until I saw a white vehicle coming from the opposite direction. Didn't want to press my luck. She was still was pulling and had more to give.

nah dawg you got it all wrong. I'm a rOkEt ScIoNtEst and can tells ya that whorespower will only get ya to 150. Ya gots to get that super secret Cobb tune that don't exist from dat imaginary commercial tuner who ain't want no other business and then produce dem impossible SAE HP numbers for stock turbos, then somehow magically manage to replicate those HP numbers at 4200 feet. Then you can just hit any old unprepped lake bed and you'll do 250 mph for sure. Oh but weight becomes super duper critical at that speed (not aero! (I'm rOkEt ScIoNtEsT! Don't question!)) so yule wanna make sure and tell everyone you shaved at least a few pounds more than whatever the actual lightest SHO out there weighs. And oh make sure you disconnect your RDU 'cause that'll shave at least 3 seconds of your 1/4 mile time while you're at it! I'm top spacex sciontest and have done all this and can't provide a shred of evidence for any of it! I'm under gag order straight from da pentagon to not share muh speed datuh!

My fastest was some years ago in my 70 Olds Cutlass, The cop said he had me at 130 and still going, lol. For now I just got the tune on my 2016 SHO last weekend, I haven't had a chance to get out and give it a top run yet.

Fastest quarter mile trap speed in an Ecoboost SHO has been 127.6MPH. Fastest I had ever personally gone in my SHO was roll racing a FBO and baby pulley CTS-V in my tin can junker spraying a 75 shot to well over 170. Not sure exactly how fast, but I just know I had a car the entire time on the V and didn't let out until they did LOL.

Half mile dragys on the same set up I saw a best of about 150mph. I had always had aspirations for a 200mph run, but never did as I thought the driveshaft would yeet itself out of existence and well the danger of going 200mph in a car that isn't really known for going 200.

One of my 89’s went 185 at a 1.5 mile runway event in Loring, Maine. Still the fastest verified run of any year SHO as far as I am aware. It was supercharged for that run. It’s getting a turbo, along with some other upgrades that should net a sizeable increase in useable TQ, especially for 5th gear. Considering I will need to shift into 5th before the end of the half-mile, I’m confident the extra TQ will mean an increase in trap speed.

According to automobile-catalog.com, they estimate our CD at 0.3. They also estimate top speed without governor (no other mods, 200lb driver) at 167mph and a 252 mph top speed based on gearing/redline alone.

When I worked for BMW I had an M6 up to 160+ on a track in Germany. I had my Wife's SHO only up to 139 but speedo only goes up to 140.
