My 93 has sounded like a bomb since I picked it up in 1997 with 40K miles on the clock. At 150K miles now and it still pulls strong... no SHOboom yet!

Your car ever had the valve ajustment? Does it run rough? You said it was coming from the rear around the "valve thingy" that opens the secondaries. Do you have any vacuum leaks around there?

Did you use a mechanics stethascope to find the noise. You may have a chain tensioner ready to fail. They will often times let the chain hit the top of the valve cover, making a rythmic tap noise.

They are not hard to change. Hard to find, but not change.

ive never done the valve adjustment, but someone else may have
otherwise the car sounds good and has great power, the ticking is coming from the one
area not the whole motor,as would be with a valves out of spec

i guess it could be the chain tensioner, but i dont think so,it really sounds like the center, rather than off to the side

keep the ideas coming guys/gals!!!!!!

I would get a stethascope and find where the noise is coming from. I have bought 180k SHO's with valve shims way out of spec, and they were not loud. I have had tensioners STB and they would make all types of noise. You really need to pinpoint the noise. Unless it spit a shim, I doubt that is your noise. But that is just my opinion. Get the cam covers off and look.

sad thing is i just had the valve covers off last weekend, doing gaskets and plug
tube seals, everything looked fine then....i guess ill do it again sighhhhhhh

do you think i can see the problem once the covers are off?
is the anything specific i should look for?
what does a worn tensioner look like, compared to one in good shape?
what if i have a broken valve spring or somthing like that will i be able to see it?

well yeah i broken valve spring would look..... well broken....

if the TCT is bad, it might be grooved from the chain...
i have also heard of them getting stuck... and a quick shot of air in the bottom would fix that problem.... allthough im not sure if that works....

you can reuse those gaskets.... if its only been a couple weeks... **** even a month.. you could still reuse them...

well, see the injectors make a ticking sound when they are running...
i guess you could try to see if one is making more sound than the others, but i highly dought that though... take a long screwdriver, snd put it on the injector, and put your ear to the screwdriver... you should hear a noticeable tick....
but like i said, i really dought thats the problem...

How loud is it Brian????

It might just need a valve ajustment!! Remember, she hasnt been run hard in a long time. I see you have already had my baby to the track, so it might need the valves ajusted.

Gosh, i sell her and now she is acting up.

hey guys i found the problem....get this!

i was doing a little reserch and found that somthing in the
secondaries can cause this noise, and it said in order to check you must unplug
the little electrical connector that leads to the canister....so i did so with the engine running
and.....**** noise was all gone!!!!!!!!! but as soon as you plug it back in the noise starts right back up,right now i have it unhooked, but when it is hooked up the secondaries work fine....anyone know what it is i need to replace in order to fix this?

if it helps when i did the valve cover gaskets last week,i also instaled a set of BBB's i had

Hmm, I may be having the same issue (at first it sounded like a timing belt tensioner). I have a tick, but the rhythm doesn't increase with RPMs, just gets a little louder, and goes away when the 2ndaries open. I'd also like to know the solution.
