I have been experiencing some really wierd issues with my SHO, for about the past year. It is pretty hard to describe, but here goes. You know how the top speed limiter normally kicks in on most newer model cars, right? Well my SHO used to do the normal "surge" at around 148 mph. Now, when I've been cruising at 85 for about 30 minutes on the interstate, the same limiter starts to kick in, IF I try to speed up. I can make it up to about 100-105, then it just starts to do the same "surging", but I can still hear the motor trying to keep pulling. Nobody, and I mean nobody, has been able to offer as much as a clue to what could be causing this. I've even had a shop install some kind of computer that stays hooked up while you drive, and it has a button that you push to record the "problem issue" when it occurs. It records 30 seconds before and after you push it. They even sent the data readings into some group at Ford, that analyzes these types of things, and even they had no clue. The transmission has also developed some kind of wierd shifting problem, that kinda goes hand and hand with the early top speed shut off. It also started right around the same time. After I've been driving for long periods of time,(30 minutes or more), and I start to do the stop and go city driving thing, the torque converter trys to go in and out of lock up immediately after shifting in any gear. It also shudders pretty bad while doing this. The transmision seems to be very confused. These "confused" symptoms occur while driving very easy.
Now here is the kicker. I can go change the transmission fluid, ( even though it's not anywhere near time to change it, and any seasoned transmission mechanic says the fluid is fine) and ALL of these problems completely stop, FOR ABOUT A MONTH!!! During that time, it will never try to prematurely shut off my speed, or shift irratically. I am at a loss. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
