I tried a few different setups on mine to eliminate resonance at 1850 rpm (or 92.5 Hz) which is right at 70 mph.
1. Started with muffler delete which sounded really good, but had too much resonance at 70 mph..like way too much.
2. Next step was 3rd cat delete, resonator delete, and a set of knockoff flowmasters. Sounded different, not quite as good as the muffler delete, but still lots of resonance at 70 mph.
3. Third step was to add resonators back in. Put two 18" resonators in and the resonance was tolerable, but still obnoxious. Car still sounded good.
4. Added a short h-pipe just behind where the 3rd cat was. This had the effect of lowering the resonant frequency to around 1700 rpm and increased the roll-off (higher Q) around that frequency. Resonance was still annoying ay 70 mph.
5. Replaced chambered mufflers with Summit Racing turbo mufflers. Now the car is quiet again, no interior resonance, but a little too quiet for my tastes. I really like the Summit rolled steel mufflers because the internal flow tubes are 2 1/2 all the way through, not necked down inside like so many others.
I'm planning to replace the hacked in h-pipe with an x-pipe in an attempt to increase the sound level just a bit. I'm definitely keeping the turbo mufflers on it. I might pull the resonators back off because these turbo mufflers just might be quiet enough. Or maybe better yet I'll put some downpipes on it...hmmm
Why did I do all this? Because I've had the chance to hear the different setups and it cost me maybe $400 all together to really get a feel for what I want, and im still $1,000 away from the corsa system, which I don't think I'd be happy with (it'll be $700 away by the time i'm done...lol). If you drive around town all day the muffler delete is a great option and sounds good. If you spend time on the highway, I personally wouldn't recommend chambered mufflers.
