I have a 2013 Taurus SHO with Performance Pack.

Only draw back is that it has summer tires on it. I was researching all-season tires that I could buy this fall and I have come down to a couple options
(I never really looked at tires too closely, but I was disappointed that there were no competitive tires from American companies):

Michelin Primacy MXM4 - pricey but supposed to be the best

Kumho Ecsta 4x - gotten great written reviews, and cost effective

Continental DWS - I had these on my 530xi that I sold, great tire except for the increased road noise

Anyone have first hand experience with these tires (or others?) The SHO weighs more than most cars so I was wondering how these held up, and whether or not i should just suck it up and get the michelins.

Thanks for your feedback!

I'm assuming you want all-season because of the snow in Michigan. It would cost you the same or less to buy (assuming you have 20" wheels) winter tires and 18" wheels and then you'd have top performing tires in both winter and summer without costing you anything more than you already planned to spend.

I would pickup a set of Blizzaks or similar winter tires. All seasons don't mean they are good in the snow. ;)

This fall, check out TireRack's winter wheel and winter tire deals. Running 18's and narrower winter tires, or an A/S that gets good feedback on it's ability to handle snow would be my choice. 235-55-18 is same height as stock tires.

55's are smaller than the stock 20's. I bought 225-60-18's and they still are ever so slightly smaller in diameter than the stock tires.

On my 2nd 2010 SHO. 1st one had 19" wheels with Goodyear RSA tires. Got 50K miles on them before I totaled it. 2nd SHO I bought used with PP 20" wheels.
Car had new pirelli P Zeros. Only lasted 20K miles. I purchased a new set of Goodyear RSA2. 245-25-20R. Did not see need for Z rated tire. These tires are All Season with good ride and are very quite.
Bought from Goodyear dealer installed for $950. set. Best of Luck.

I looked at the sizing on the stock SHO19" tires. The 55's are slightly larger than those by .1", But... you might be right on the 20's.

If you have a SCT tuner, you can adjust for wheel RPM and get Speedo exact.

Stay away from the MICHELIN tires. Mine were cracking, and splitting. No help from Ford, very little help with my tire distributor and I worked for a tire shop for years, and still waiting on a reimbursement now. Been almost a month. I went with the Nitto 420S and love them.

Seriously? You got a new SHO with the Performance Package and the summer tires are a drawback? Why get the PP then? When you buy a performance car, getting summer tires is maximizing its potential. You spent the money for it, spend the money for winter wheels and tires. All seasons are all seasons of compromise...

WTF? When I bought my 11 PP SHO I didn't realize you had to spend $1500 for a second set of wheels/tires just because you live in Chicago. You don't find out about these ******** problems till after the fact because they are so new. You would think an AWD is awesome in winter....not the case with the F1's

Not to be a dick but it's common sense that performance tires are not good in snow. The performance package states they come with performance tires.

Although performance tires aren't good on snow the SHO will still perform better in snow (with performance tires) than a Taurus with FWD. You don't need to buy winter tires but it really doesn't cost you anything in the long run. You're just spending the $1300 now instead of in a few years. Over the life of the first two sets of tires you would spend the same amount of money buying your next summer tires or buying your winter tires with 18" wheels.

Summer tires are NOT designed to be run in Cold temps, let alone Snow. The rubber gets hard and car won't stop well, even on dry pavement when it's below 32 deg. The colder it is the worse this becomes.

The GY F1's are not even supposed to be ran at below 40 degrees! They are absolutely treacherous in snow. My wife did a 360 while we were waiting for our backordered winter wheels and tires.

We put on some 18's with studded Firestone Winterforce tires. It's a tank in the snow now! Can't hardly make it slip. Much better than her last vehicle, a 99 Explorer, also with good studded tires. And the dedicated summer tires grip like glue, too-way better than any all seasons!

One would think that, but I can assure you a AWD Taurus with F1s is the worst thing I've driven on snow.

With studless winter tires it's a tank, nothing stops it on the road.

I bought All Seasons myself for a "winter" tire for my SVT Focus. The reason was, I drove about a thousand miles a week. I didn't want the all the downsides of winter tires for the 98 - 99 percent of the time I didn't "need" to have winter traction.

A good all season was the best I needed. If the roads were that bad that I needed winter tires to drive in it, I wasnt going to go to work anyway :)

I wish more people would understand this. I can't tell you how many arguments I got in with people over this.

They think a summer tire just should not be driven in the snow. Or its OK if its just occasional. I love the "It will be fine with summer tires, its got all wheel drive"

Some summer tires loose their effectiveness well before 32 degrees. Temperature compounds will have a greater impact on a tires usefullness than tread pattern.

Do you live under a rock? Maybe if you lived in Miami I'd understand your puzzlement of why an MAX PERFORMANCE tire wouldn't work in the snow, no matter if it had 2 wheels driving or 100.

It's not a BS problem. You're just an uninformed consumer.
